A governor's profile
Being a school governor is a rewarding and effective way of making a voluntary contribution to the well being of our local community and the success of your local schools.
The school governing body is responsible for working strategically
with the headteacher in ensuring good quality education for our pupils. They make key decisions that directly affect the direction of the school and can really make a difference in improving standards.
This involves the establishment of a development plan, the setting of challenging but achievable targets and the interpretation of information to assess progress and determine appropriate action.
Typically, a governor's duties will average at around 6 hours of spare time each month. The governing body is there to be a 'critical friend' who can provide the right balance between supporting and challenging the performance of both the headteacher and the school.
