WELCOME!!!

At South Molton we strive to create a supportive school in which children can develop confidence and independence. One of our most important documents is the school "Aims". It is in this document that we set out the things we believe in for Early Years Education. This is a policy which is regularly reviewed and is the subject of joint discussion between governors and staff.

We highly value the important links that exist between home and school and with this in mind we welcome any opportunity to talk to parents about any aspect of their child's development. We keep parents informed of any new procedures and policies via our regular newsletters Children between the ages of four and seven attend school during their Foundation and Key Stage One education and then transfer to our partner Junior school when they are seven. The Governing Body are a very supportive group of people who assist me in maintaining a secure, safe and stimulating environment for our children. The present Chair of Governors is Brian Edwards.

EDUCATION

Within our school children are encouraged as individuals to achieve their full potential. Education is enjoyable and our children are well motivated towards learning. We foster confidence and independence encouraging children to be articulate and develop the lively and enquiring minds needed to become enthusiastic learners.

With such young children we understand our part in their social and emotional development. Children understand the clear expectations we have towards behaviour and learn to cope with relationships both with peers and adults and behave responsibly. We encourage children to understand the feelings of others, to respect their values and to consider thoughtfully their own attitudes, values and beliefs.

'We are commited to offering the children a high standard of education, achieved through an ongoing programme of learning which provides a broad and balanced curriculum in line with statutory requirements.' (taken from school"Aims")

Programmes of study are planned to suit individual children's needs and various stages of development. Special educational needs are catered for and fully integrated throughout the curriculum.

We understand the importance of an enjoyable day at school and use a variety of teaching and learning styles to motivate and stimulate our children. Full use is made of our surroundings, community and many resources adding interest and a tangible dimension to learning.
