Our School is a primary school on the Isle of Portland.
It was built in 1979. We have nearly 200 pupils
aged from 4 - 11.
Our motto is, 'Love to Learn, Learn to Love'.
Hello and welcome to your own page. If you are going to be coming to our school one day we hope these pages will help you get to know our school a bit better.
Here is a drawing of our school. You might like to make it bigger by clicking the mouse over it and printing it out. If you would like to colour in the picture and send it to Miss Cranny in the School Office she will give you a special certificate.
When our youngest new pupils begin at our school we give them a little booklet welcoming them to Southwell School. It can be used as a colouring book. There are drawings made by our older children to help new pupils to learn about what we do in our school. Here are two examples of some pages from the booklet. If you would like your own copy please email us at the School Office (address on Contact page). Please would you let us know where you found out about the booklet.
What Are The Aims Of The School ?
At Southwell School we actively encourage children to:
1. Develop self - confidence and awareness of oneself, others and the environment,
2. Be tolerant of others and respect difference,
3. Develop an enthusiasm for learning and self - motivation that will continue throughout their adult lives,
4. Be good ambassadors for their School in the community and contribute towards making their School a better place.
School Uniform
Whilst it is not compulsory most children at Southwell School wear School uniform. Our children are very proud of their School and are encouraged to take a pride in a smart appearance at all times. Our main supplier is the National Schoolwear Shop in St. Alban Street in Weymouth. They stock all the items for our School and will even arrange for a regular paying - in account for you if you wish to save up for new uniform for September. Designer football strips and fashion accessories are not school uniform.
Girls: Navy skirt, golden yellow polo shirt & navy jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan. Summer dress or blouse and skirt in navy & white (gingham)
Boys: Navy trousers or shorts, golden yellow polo shirt, navy sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan.
Shoes should be sensible and low-heeled, preferably black. We discourage children wearing trainers to school.
Schools now have responsibility for school uniform clothing grants to parents. Portland schools have agreed Ł35 available for families (over 2 years) subject to the child being eligible for free school meals. Please ask at the School Office for more details
