Speenhamland Primary School is in Newbury, West Berkshire, UK. Currently there are 280 children, whose ages range from four to eleven, on roll. The present main school building was opened on 1933. Prior to that classes were held in the Victorian building near the Pelican Lane entrance which now houses the Dragon Club.
In our school there is a resourced unit called the Keevill (named after a teacher who taught at the school in the 1950/60's). It is a special needs unit catering for pupils with physical disabilities.
Headteacher's Welcome
I would like to welcome you to the Speenhamland School web-site. Attending school is an exciting and challenging experience. Together with the staff and Governors I hope this site will give you an insight into our school. At Speenhamland we strive to ensure that the children are happy and secure. We want them to realise their full potential - to learn, have fun, make friends, and develop caring attitudes. We positively encourage parents' interest and involvement in their children's progress and in the life of the school. Eleanor Brooks Headteacher

The Dining Hall
The food in the dining hall is very nice; you are allowed to choose what you want from the menu.
The price per lunch is £1.70.
Every term you get a new menu so that you know what is on the following term.
Also we have really nice staff, for example the cooks and the dinner ladies.

Dinner ladies and Cooks
The dinner ladies are really kind, whenever you want something done they will do it for you. The cooks have very nice meals and they give you a pudding and a drink.

This is our adventure playground, opened by Chris Tarrant in 2001. We have a rota for who goes on it each day, so it does not get crowded. |
this is our playing field,we use it for lots of sports but we do have a seperate football pitch which the football team use for home games,we are sumetimes aloud on the field as long as it is dry enough. We also have some monky bars.We have tarmack around the front playgrond like a little maze and hop scotch. |
Welcome to the Library. |
One of our teachers, Mrs Alder, works and teaches pupils in the library classroom. However, Miss White is head of our wonderful library and organises it all. Another teacher, Mrs Canning, works in the library. Everyone works very hard to keep our library in ship shape, and Speenhamland would like to thank them. |
We are lucky to have a group of 13 trained year sixes to be our PM Pals. These trained year sixes help with friendship problems. Their area is behind the shed near Mrs Brooks' office or at wetplay times in the junior libary.
These are the sort of problems they solve:
1.Name calling, 2.Rumor spreading, 3.Problems generally to do with broken friendship.

Welcome to the Dragon Club Homepage.
At Dragon Club, we aim to build on our blend of safe educational fun to reach new levels of excellence. Our goal is to be special for both children and parents. Dragon Club is a great place to play...
What is Play? children's play is freely chosen, personally directed behaviour, motivated from within; through play, the child explores the world and her or his relationship with it, elaborating all the while a flexible range of responses to the challenges she or he encounters ; by playing, the child learns and develops as an individual. whereas children may play without encouragement or help, adults can, through the provision of an appropriate human and physical environment, significantly enhance opportunities for the child to play creatively and thus develop through play.
|
And from the children:
Dragon Club is an after and before school club (before 8am – 9am, after 3pm – 6pm) for children with parents that work full time. Here you can draw, play games and lots more! Mr Dove is the manager of Dragon Club. Also the children can have a snack whilst they’re there.
Also, every year there is a Dragon Club show! This year it was on April 28th. The Dragon Club show is usually about an hour and a half, with two parts. The first parts are little acts where you can do pretty much anything (a variety show)! The second part is the main play that lasts an hour, this year it was called: Once upon a Mix-up!
