Welcome to Spinney Primary School

The Spinney is a very welcoming, caring community and I feel very privileged to be a part of it. The school’s mission statement is “Teaching and Learning Together” and this is very much at the heart of what we do.

In recent years the Spinney has achieved a number of prodigious awards including Investors in People, The Health Promoting School’s Award and the ICT Mark (There are only about 5% of these schools nationally) In 2006 the school was assessed by Ofsted as being an “outstanding” school, one of the first in the country.

Academically the children achieve very highly in English, Maths and Science but we are passionate about promoting all curriculum subjects. At present we offer the children Music and French for one hour per week each. There are a number of clubs which run after school including an ICT club, football, netball and dance club.

There is a strong community feel to the school with a very strong parents association (Friends), a hard working and skilled staff team, and a fully committed Governing Body. The Spinney has a lot to offer our children and we always keep them at the centre of everything we do.

FOR PARENTS

Thinking of becoming a Spinney Parent?

Have a look at the school's prospectus and the links for parents.  The links include OFSTED reports on all the schools in The Spinney's area, information about Cambridge, and about local nursery and after-school child-care.  You can also find links to relevant educational government organizations.

If you want to see what the school looks like take the photographic tour of the school and have a look (and listen) to some of the past events at the school.

Already a Spinney Parent?

You can find useful details about the school such as term dates, teacher names and the price of school lunches in the prospectus.

The School Office

The School Office provides information about the day-to-day running of the school including relevant dates and copies of letters to parents.

School Governors

The school operates various Policies and Rules that parents should be aware of.  These are maintained by the Governors who produce an annual report.  You can find out what other public information the school governors have released from their web area.

The Friends

The Parents' association, the Friends of the Spinney, who organize and hold fund-raising and social occasions have their own web area.

Childrens' Clubs

Some of the school's clubs have their own web pages detailing, amongst other things, their times of operation.

Childrens' Work

Each year can have its own web space.  You can see what classes have published from the class pages link.

Mail Groups

If you would like to have newletters send to you via email, please write to flower@spinney.cambs.sch.uk to register your email address.  Please don't forget to write your children's names and year groups.

SPOC

The Spinney On-line Club is a place parents can go for help with life on the Internet, including information about how to get an Internet connection and start using email from scratch.

Internet Privacy and Children's Safety

The Spinney operates a set of web rules which are designed to ensure the safety of Spinney children as they use the Internet.

Internet Links

You can go to some special places on the Web that are just for Children - click here for a list of them.

The School Council

Each class elects 2 people to represent them on the School Council. The children on the School Council are in charge of giving classroom ideas to teachers. They can also set up events to get money for charities or for the school.

Each term new pupils are chosen for the school council by you... the children.

Playground Assistants

Responsible children are chosen to help in the playground. You can tell who is a Playground Assistant because of their bright yellow hat.
