Welcome Spinning Infant School

A Ramsey school which encourages pupils to think for themselves has been singled out for special praise. Ramsey Spinning Infants School is one of only five in the county highlighted by Ofsted following an outstanding performance in an Ofsted inspection.

Head teacher Diana Cooling Said "We are very pleased that Ofsted judges our school's ethos to be outstanding. This combined with a rich and varied curriculum, ensures all children achieve success. We constantly challenge all our pupils and spend a great deal of time encouraging them to take responsibility, express ideas and clarify their thoughts." She added: " This helps develop vocabulary which impacts on their achievements over the whole of the curriculum."

Aims of our school
  • To promote positively the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our children.
  • To create a stimulating school environment where children come eagerly to learn, where they feel valued and secure.
  • To encourage children to use language and mathematics effectively.
  • To encourage awareness of the scientific, technological, social, historical and geographical aspects of the local environment and wider world and to develop practical skills in these areas.
  • To share experiences and encourage creative participation in art, craft, literature, music, dance and other physical activities.
  • To develop sensitivity to each other's needs, friendliness, courtesy and tolerance towards others, and an appreciation and understanding of religious, cultural and moral values.
  • To help pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to a fast changing world.
  • To encourage a working partnership between governors, home, the community and school for the greater benefit of the children's education.
  • To encourage each child to take a pride in his/her work and achievements and to fulfil his/her potential.
  • To deliver a broad, balanced curriculum to each child.
  • To ensure that work is matched to the child's ability through continuous assessment.

The Ramsey school was one of 457 outstanding schools and colleges across England praised by David Bell, the Chief Inspector of schools.

CLASSES

A BIG welcome to all the new children and parents starting with us in reception this September. We look forward to seeing you all soon. If you have any views on our website please share them with us.

A change from normal!

In order to have different tactile experiences children in Reception have been playing with 'shaving foam'. It was absolutely 'crazy fun'!

Elmers Day

Once a year elephants decorate themselves and parade. On that day if you happen to see a grey elephant then you know it must be Elmer.

CLUBS

Clubs!Clubs!Clubs!

Gardening club takes place on a Monday after school. It is open to Year 2 children. Mrs Smith is the teacher in charge along with the expert help from Mr Dew.

Some of the activities include planting bulbs and seeds, painting pots, making and maintaining bird feeders and keeping the school wildlife area tidy and safe.

We have bird feeders in various places all around the school.

Not only do we need Mr Dew's gardening expertise, his height comes in handy occassionally too!

The children in year 2 enjoy all aspects of gardening club including...

...making lots of mess!

Home made bird feeders made by pupils in year 2.

Computer club is for all year 2 children and happens on Monday lunchtimes. Over a period of 4 weeks each group has the opportunity to sample a variety of art programmes including:

Dazzle, 2 animate, 2 go, 2 paint.

The children are also able to learn how to e-mail their friends within school (this is password protected by the teacher) using www.starz.org.uk.

They have also e-mailed the Deputy Head who has, in turn, responded to each e-mail, therefore allowing the children to receive and view messages.

One session is also set aside for internet access using websites such as www.bbc.co.uk/schools and www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies.

Netball Club (run by Mrs Stone) is also open to Year 2 children every Wednesday after school at 3.00.

The aim of this club is to have lots of fun doing a variety of activities and playing games whilst gaining a basic knowledge and understanding of the rules, techniques , skills and team positions in netball.

Last year we were able to purchase 2 new netball posts, which were kindly funded by the P.F.A. this enables us to play matches and practice all the skills we have learnt.

N.B. Due to Mrs Stone leaving Spinning Infants for pastures new, netball club is currently not being run, but hopefully will resume again in the Autumn term 2007.
