AIMS

School Aims - S.H.A.R.R.I.N

Our school aims are under the headings of East Renfrewshire's Children's Services plan. The pupils came up with the name "Sharrin" to help them to remember the areas, and there is a beautiful display in the school entrance hall.

SAFE The children of Springhill will be welcomed into a safe and caring environment.  All staff will work to protect the pupils from abuse, neglect and harm within the community.  Teachers will develop a trusting relationship with each individual and ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed.

NURTURED At Springhill we will ensure that children are supported in their family setting through good home links and have access to services available, if needed, through the community school.  Through continuous support Springhill School will ensure each child has a positive and rewarding experience of school life.

HEALTHY In Springhill, all young people will have the opportunity to attain the highest possible standard of physical, social and emotional health, through a cross-curricular approach which encourages a healthy lifestyle.  This includes active PE, healthy eating choices and supportive PSE programmes, delivered within a safe environment.
ACHIEVING The children of Springhill will have equal access to a broad range of positive learning environments through a wide and varied curriculum.  The pupils will have opportunities to achieve their fullest potential through the development of their skills and knowledge, encouraging every child to develop their confidence and self esteem.
ACTIVE Springhill Primary School, in conjunction with appointed Active School Co-ordinators, will both encourage and provide a range of opportunities for our pupils to involve themselves in curricular, extra-curricular and playground activities in order to foster a positive attitude to being active, which in turn will enhance their health, well-being and social skills.
RESPECTED AND RESPONSIBLE Springhill Primary School will strive to ensure that in decisions which affect them, the views of pupils and their carers are welcomed and given due consideration.  Springhill Primary School will encourage pupils to work in partnership with others to make important decisions about their role in personal learning and in the life of the community.
INCLUDED Springhill Primary School will strive to provide high quality Learning and Teaching for pupils, parents and carers.  Springhill Primary School will recognise specific social, educational, environmental and economic barriers experienced by pupils and will take steps to overcome them.  Springhill Primary School will engage with Integrated Community School staff, Social Work and Health Board staff to counter inequalities of all kinds, which create barriers to learning.

CLASSES

HOME/SCHOOL LINKS

It is policy of the school to encourage a happy relationship between home and school. This relationship is seen as a partnership between the school and home. Opportunities are given in November and May each year for formal visits by parents to the school and there is at least one ‘open’ day during the year when parents can come and view the children at work. It is hoped that parents will communicate with the school at all times about any matters concerning their children. This invitation is repeated in every newsletter. Springhill Primary is also a part the Barrhead Integrated School within East Renfrewshire, which builds links within the community through specially appointed staff.

On various occasions throughout the year parents are invited to share in our assemblies and to be involved in class activities, also to help in Sports and class outings. The school has been part of a project in Early Literacy. This involves parents in reading stories, playing games and supporting activities, which develop language. During the session, Mrs Wallace operates an Infant Library for P1 – P3 pupils. This is a lending library to aid the promotion of early reading skills and is well supported and run by volunteer parents. From early June, there is a ‘pre-school-into - P1’ slot on Thursdays at 2.45p.m. to encourage our new starts to take home a book.
