St Andrew’s School is a community of children, parents, teachers and members of the local community, seeking to serve the wider community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.

St Andrew’s School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School for children aged 4+ to 11 from Preston with Sutton Poyntz, Osmington with Poxwell and Littlemoor. (Areas served by the churches of St Andrew, St Osmund and St Francis of Assisi, whose nearest school is St Andrew’s.)

Together we will, as partners:

  • be forward looking, positive and flexible to respond to change
  • provide a stimulating and effective education within a broad and balanced curriculum
  • encourage and expect good attendance and punctuality
  • encourage the children to wear the school uniform, as it identifies the children as part of the school community
  • encourage a high standard of behaviour
  • support and value all school staff
  • communicate in a variety of ways including newsletters and via the web site, letters about extra-curricular activities and events, meetings and an annual written report
  • encourage each individual to do their best at all times
  • encourage each adult member of the school to realise his/her potential, regardless of age, gender, race or ability
  • take care of each other and our surroundings
  • work together to enhance progress and achievement
  • tackle any special needs
  • uphold Christian values in worship, Religious Education and the whole life of the school
  • nurture a sensitivity and respect for other religions

When children enter the school in Reception they will be continuing to work on the Early Learning Goals for the Foundation Stage.

The National Curriculum then divides the pupils in Primary School into Key Stage 1: Years 1 and 2 - and Key Stage 2: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The curriculum is planned within the revised framework and guidelines of the National Curriculum 2000, the National Literacy Strategy (NLS) and the National Numeracy Strategy (MMS).

The school has a full programme for Religious Education, collective worship and sex education. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from these areas of the curriculum due to religious or moral views. The Head Teacher will discuss any issue which the parents might have concerning any of these areas of work. Religious Education at St Andrew’s School is Christian in emphasis, but the children are introduced to the beliefs and customs of other faiths, to help to develop tolerance and understanding.
