Welcome!

Welcome to St. Augustine's School, a Catholic High School for students aged 13-19 from the Redditch, Bromsgrove and surrounding Worcestershire areas.

Welcome to St Augustine’s Catholic High School, Redditch, Worcestershire.

Our website, still under design, provides you with an insight into our school. I recommend that you view our newsletters, issued weekly to students and parents, to find out more.

We are first and foremost a Catholic school and as such aim to be a ‘Christ centred learning community committed to the development of the whole person’. For us this means we ensure places for students belonging to the Catholic faith tradition, whilst embracing and welcoming students of other faiths. We aim to achieve personal and academic excellence for all students, to promote respect for the individual and to build community through offering a wide range of extra curricular, sacramental and prayer opportunities and experiences. We are concerned with the Common Good and work hard to achieve a sense of service in students so that they leave us ready to take their place in the adult world as responsible and active young people.

We are very proud of our students’ academic achievements. In this academic year alone (2007), 80% of our Year 11 students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE. Our average A level point score per student was 333, the highest in the County and in the history of our school, whilst 46.4% of A2 grades were at A and B.

We were recently designated a Science College (September 2006) and aim to use this status to improve standards further and to reach out to the wider community. We have therefore established strong links with first and middle schools in the Redditch and Bromsgrove Catholic Partnership and we are working with them to improve teaching and learning in Science and Mathematics in all our schools and ultimately across all curriculum areas.

We enjoy a rich and diverse extra curricular programme encompassing sport, music, art and drama. Our students are renowned for achievements in these areas as well as for their courtesy towards, cooperation with and consideration for others. We are truly proud of all our young people and celebrate their many achievements regularly at end of term awards ceremonies and our annual Awards Evening. We look forward to another successful year, to challenging ourselves to do even better and to ensuring that all students feel happy in school and enabled to do their personal best.

Mission

Our School is founded on Christ, the Son of God, and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In order to achieve our mission to be a

Christ-centred learning community we:

  • recognise that each student is a member of God’s family and as such, is a unique person at his/her own point in the journey of faith

  • provide opportunities for prayer, retreats and collective worship

  • provide a safe, supportive and pleasant environment with a warm and welcoming atmosphere

In order to achieve our mission to be

committed to development of the whole person we:

  • offer the highest quality of teaching and learning which will equip students for life

  • monitor and record student progress regularly, as well as acknowledge and celebrate success

  • liaise with other schools in order to foster good relationships and ensure continuity of educational provision

  • place great emphasis on the development of high standards of personal behaviour and self-discipline

  • offer opportunities for students to be of service to the local community, the Church and society in general, and encourage students, staff, parents and governors to be involved in the life of the school.
