Welcome to St. Barnabas Chuch of England Primary School. We hope that your time with us will be enjoyable and fruitful. We regard the education of children as a partnership between home and school and look forward to sharing that exciting opportunity with you. We are a Church School and endeavour to show the love of Christ in all that we do. Our school motto is “Care for Everyone”. This booklet has been prepared to provide you with information about our school. It will inform you about the people in our school and the things we do.
We value the part that every person plays. We want all our children to succeed and feel secure and happy in school. We
are keen to have your support and cooperation to achieve this.

Our School

Our school was opened in 1984.  It was an amalgamation of three small
primary schools, St. Peter's, St. George's and Byron Street. We have a
Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Our school building was originally the old Central Secondary School and it has
adapted well to its change of use, providing excellent spacious
accommodation, including two halls, a library, and an ICT suite. Corridors as
well as classrooms are carpeted to provide warm quiet working areas which
are an extension to the classroom.

Nursery Admission

The school follows the Cheshire County Council’s Admissions Policy. Children
are normally admitted into the Nursery the term after their third birthday,
up to the 26 places the Nursery can now offer. If the Nusery is over
subscribed, priority for admission will be determined by:
1. age of the child
2. nearness of the child’s residence to the school
3. siblings in the school
Parents wishing to visit the nursery or put their child’s name on the waiting
list should contact the school. There are also places at St Barnabas Day
Nursery which has strong links with the school.

School Admissions

In line with the Cheshire County Council’s admissions policy, at St. Barnabas
children are admitted into school in September of the academic year in
which they have their fifth birthday (ie between 1 st September and 31 st
Criteria for admission in the event of over-subscription are:
1. living in the catchment area,
2. having siblings already attending St. Barnabas
3. being an active member of a Christian Church.
Appointments to visit the school can be made though the school office.

National Curriculum

In implementing the School Curriculum, the Governors' principal intention is
to help all children to realise their potential. We aim to develop children into
rounded individuals through the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.
Our aim is that through the provision of the best possible resources, each
child will be able to discover and develop any natural talents he/she has as
well as explore new skills.
The Nursery and Reception classes base their activities on the Curriculum
Guidance for the Foundation Stage. This encourages active involvement on
the part of the children to develop across a range of experiences. These are
grouped under the headings:
∙ Personal, Social and Emotional Development
∙ Communication, Language and Literacy
∙ Mathematical Development
∙ Knowledge and Understanding of the World
∙ Physical Development
∙ Creative Development
Foundation Stage experiences underpin all future learning, so we seek to
develop positive attitudes towards learning, the capacity to concentrate and
persist, and positive social skills. We also strive to foster a love of books, and
a curiosity about the world.
From the end of Reception through Year 6, the school follows the National
Curriculum which has three core subjects – English, Maths and Science.  In
addition, the foundation subjects covered are Information and
Communication Technology (ICT), History, Geography, Design Technology,
Art, Music, and Physical Education. We use every opportunity to make links
across subjects and to develop children’s creativity, for example writing
skills are integrated into History, Geography,  Religious Education and
Science. ICT and Mathematics will have applications and uses across the
National Curriculum Documents are available in school for perusal.
