Mission Statement
In keeping with our Christian ethos, we at St. George’s aim to create a happy, secure environment in which all members of the school community can take advantage of high academic standards to grow in self esteem and fully develop their potential.
Description of the School
St George's is a co-educational Church of England Voluntary Aided Middle School for children aged 9-13 years.
In September 1997 we moved into a brand new purpose built school equipped to the highest standards.
The facilities available to the children include:
- Assembly Hall/Gymnasium with permanent stage
- 12 Classrooms
- 1 Music Room
- 2 Science Laboratories
- 1 Design Technology Room
- 1 Art Room with Pottery Kiln
- 1 Food Technology Room
- 1 Information Technology Suite
- 2 Libraries – Fiction and Non-Fiction
- Dining Area
- Changing Rooms
We have two hard playing areas. One equipped with benches for quiet recreation : the other, which has provision for several tennis courts, is used for more energetic games at playtime.
The school site is large, commanding exceptional views over the Island, and we have extensive playing field provision.
Since 1990 the school has been designated four form entry. This means that we can admit up to 120 pupils in each year group. This expansion still makes us the smallest of the three middle schools on the Island, a point we feel benefits children transferring from their first school.
What is an Aided School?
As an Aided School there are close links with the Church. Clergy from the CE churches (along with other denominations) take assembly on a regular basis. The Foundation Governors, appointed by the Church Authorities form a major part of the Governing body and share the responsibility for maintaining the Christian ethos of the school, where children are cared for as individuals.
