| Welcome To Saint John Houghton Catholic School A Specialist Science College

Our Mission

Saint John Houghton is a Catholic Secondary school offering a Christian education, where prayer, worship and liturgy are integral parts of our daily life.
We aspire, as a school:
-
To be recognised for the quality of care extended to all associated with us and to respect each person's dignity and uniqueness
-
To make the faith life of the school inform and effect work in all areas of the curriculum
-
To be a 'family', embracing home and parish, with an awareness of its responsibilities to both local and worldwide communities
-
To establish a whole curriculum which will balance the highest academic standards with the life skills and critical awareness necessary to enable all students to reach their full potential and to respond to the needs of society
Saint John Houghton Catholic School is a voluntary aided 11 - 16 mixed comprehensive school in the Kirk Hallam district of Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

| we In order to realise the aspirations set out in our Mission Statement we aim:
- To form a worshipping community where all individuals are equally respected regardless of age, creed, sex, colour or ethnic origin
- To prepare all students to play an active part in the building of the Kingdom of God here on earth
- To make available to all students, regardless of ability, the whole of the curriculum we are able to offer
- To offer a curriculum (based on the National Curriculum) which is permeated by the Gospel message of love and justice
- To help students to develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and to argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills
- To help students acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in an ever changing world

| SPECIALIST STATUS IN SCIENCE | |
| We have had to raise £50, 000 in sponsorship, and lots of organisations and individuals have helped us to raise this money. We are really grateful for their support.

The benefits of the status:
-
We will be working hard to raise attainment in not only science and mathematics, but across every subject
-
We will provide a centre of excellence in Scientific, technological, enterprising and vocational education
-
We will be working with local, regional and wider developments in both science and mathematics
-
We will be improving our links with Post 16 education to help students develop the knowledge and skills for further education, training and employment
-
We will be working with the community, including our partner schools, to further improve attainment and awareness of science and mathematics

We look forward to many other benefits of the status for the school and our community.
If you would like to know more or have any queries regarding any of the above please contact Mr Waugh (Director of Specialist Science College) at school.
