MISSION STATEMENT

Through the three way partnership of home, school and church and recognising that Jesus Christ is to be found in each one of us, it is our understood and shared aim to foster a community where life is lived according to Gospel values and the teachings of the Catholic Church and whereby each member of that community is afforded every opportunity to realise his or her full potential which is to be a true imitator of Jesus Christ who Himself said: "Love one another as I have loved you."

Karate Club (Chelmsford Wado Kai)

The school karate club meets every Monday evening during term time in the Middle School Hall.

7:30 – 8:30 Beginners
7:30 – 9:00 Higher grades (green belt and above)
9:00 – 9:30 Instructor training

The club is affiliated to the BWKS (British Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Shikukai) with clubs across London and out to Clacton.  The chief instructor is Yoshi Shinohara 8th Dan.  The instructors in the school club are Bill Mossman (4th Dan), Gareth Williams (1st Dan) and visiting instructor Janet Butcher (4th Dan).

The session starts with a warm-up of light exercises and stretching. Then, basic techniques, combinations, pair work and kata are practised.  For higher grades, light sparring, bag work and competition fighting is also covered.  This style of karate is essentially non-contact and there is no compulsion to engage in sparing although many students enjoy this.  Beginners should wear loose clothing to training sessions.

Term dates: 10 September to 17 December 2007 - excluding half term 22 October.

Term fees: £20 per student.
Our aim is to keep costs as low as possible. When students pass their first grading (yellow belt) and decide to continue then they will need a karate suit (£12), badge (£3) and annual licence with the BWKS (£14). Gradings cost £6 which includes the certificate and a new belt.

Further details are available from Mr G Williams – 07773 448318
