Welcome to the St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Web Site!

At St Joseph's we try to provide a happy, secure environment in which children will learn respect and tolerance for others and knowledge of and reverence for the Catholic faith, while pursuing a creative curriculum which will enable them to develop their mosaic of intelligences.

OUR MISSION

As a Catholic School our mission is:

“To provide a happy, secure environment in which children will learn respect and tolerance for others and knowledge of and reverence for the Catholic faith, while pursuing a creative curriculum which will enable them to develop their mosaic of intelligences.”

We seek to build an environment in which Christian values guide all the children in their important formative years, providing a secure foundation to support and give direction to their future lives. St. Joseph's provides a caring and stimulating environment where positive self discipline is nurtured.

The School

St. Joseph's is a 7 form Catholic Primary School with the addition of a new purpose built nursery that opened in January 2004. We have extending our facilities to include childcare and a range of after school clubs run by outside providers. The school serves the Catholic Parish of the Sacred Heart Church in Droitwich, with much emphasis being placed on Christian values. The school was built in 1970, and is set in the pleasant surroundings of the Salwarpe Valley on the western side of Droitwich. The site includes a large playing field, three playgrounds incorporating two netball courts and three short tennis courts, woods, pond and a carefully nurtured forest school and conservation area. There have been several extensions over the past few years that have enhanced our learning environment. The school has extensive ICT provision networked throughout the school incorporating 25 computers and interactive whiteboards in every classroom.

The semi open-plan nature of the building readily lends itself to co-operative teaching methods. At the present time there are 3 Key Stage 1 classes and 4 Key Stage 2 classes and there is one nursery class of 26 children for three year olds. The number on roll at present is 240 and 30 pupils are now admitted into Key Stage 1 each year. All reception class children are admitted in September either full time or part time with an appropriate induction period. Housing in Droitwich is rapidly expanding at the moment and as a result we are always over subscribed.

The school is a one-storey building with a hall, 7 classroom areas, a purpose built nursery, computer areas, a purpose built library area, resources room, headteacher's office, secretary's office and staffroom. We plan to extend our ICT area in the summer 2006 and we have plans drawn up to build a new staff room at some stage in the future.

We have active links with other schools in the Droitwich "Pyramid" and with the Worcestershire Catholic Partnership. Our feeder High school is Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College in Worcester, which holds Maths and Computing Status. Most of our children transfer at the age of 11 to Blessed Edward’s.
The Children

The pupils come from a wide area and from a variety of economic and social backgrounds. Catholic children from Droitwich make up the bulk of our intake, but we also take Catholic children from the surrounding villages and a small proportion of Non-Catholic children. The majority of our children walk to school or travel by car, but a growing number of older children cycle to school.

Our children work hard and are keen to achieve their potential. Most display care and thought for each other and they are encouraged to sort out their differences by talking to each other. We have many talented children who are eager to share their gifts with others, and we enjoy the support of most of our parents.
