St Margaret's has eight classrooms, with around 220 children on role. The Governing Body ensures that, wherever possible all class sizes are under 30.

The children enjoy a full curriculum, covering work from the National Curriculum, the Diocese of Exeter Syllabus for Religious Education and additional Personal, Social and Health Education work, including a weekly free-choice Activity Hour. See our Project Pages for details of ongoing work.

  • To provide a broad Christian Education at the highest standards across all aspects of the National Curriculum.
  • To enable the child to become spiritually aware and to develop both a sense of moral responsibility and of purpose.
  • To develop a sense of self-respect and self-discipline within a safe environment and to encourage the capacity to grow into self motivated adults able to function as full members of society.
  • For staff, governors, parents and children to work together as members of a team. To provide an example and encouragement for children to grow in social awareness, satisfaction in doing one’s best and a persevering attitude of mind.
  • To enable all children to achieve their full potential by building on their work in Key Stage 1 and carefully preparing them for the next stage in their education – Key Stage 3.

Our School follows the National Curriculum Guidelines and endeavours to ensure that appropriate levels of teaching are given to all pupils. There is a significant spread of ability within the school and many new children to integrate in any one year. This will be effectively achieved but it should be noted that new arrivals might require a period of immersion in our school ethos before effective teaching can take place. Nonetheless, we teach all National Curriculum subjects and RE and offer a wide variety of extra curricula activities, including clubs, school visits, residential visits and participation in church and community events.

St. Margaret’s has an excellent reputation for PE and Sport, regularly achieving outstanding results in Soccer, High 5, Tag Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and Gymnastics. Many of the staff hold coaching qualifications in sporting activities. Opportunities are provided for children to participate in Athletics, Gymnastics, High 5, Rounders, Soccer, Outdoor Adventure Activities, Volley Ball, Uni-hoc, Tag Rugby, Cross Country, Tennis and Swimming.
