Welcome to the St. Margaret's Church of England School!
We are a very small friendly primary school who, with the Sure Start Nursery and St. Margaret's Pre-School on site, can offer educational places for children aged 3 months to 9 years. Ventnor Middle School is across the road from our site and this educates children up to 13 years.
As of September 2006, St.Margaret's has fifty one children on its role. Our focus this year is an 'eco-year', so we have three classes for the children to thrive in. These are;
Rainforest: Foundation \ Year 1 Ocean: Year1\Year2 Desert: Year3\Year4
We had a successful Ofsted in June 2006 and this is what they said to the children about our school:
Dear Children,
Your school is a happy place in which to learn because most of you get on well with each other and with the adults in school.
Most of you behave well in lessons, in assemblies and around the school and play sensibly outside.
You know how to keep yourself healthy and safe and why you should exercise. You also know about eating food that is good for you.
Your teachers know how well you are doing, which of you need extra help and which need harder work.
You work hard and are making better progress because your teachers plan work which is usually enjoyable and tell you the main point of the lesson.
You go on some great visits and have interesting visitors to help you learn, like the African drumming teacher.
Your very good headteacher and governors are clear about what needs to be done to improve the school and make sure you learn as well as you can. All the staff are determined to ensure you do as well as possible.
Although your school has improved, these are some things it could do better:
The staff are going to look very closely at how well you are doing and make sure the work they give you is just hard enough.
Let you know exactly what you need to do to get better at your work.
Finding ways of checking up on some of the changes that have been made to see if it is really making a difference to the way you learn.
As you can imagine, the children and staff were happy that we have such a lovely school.
This year we are extending links into the community and looking for ways to continue to improve our learning.
