All about Us

OUR SCHOOL

EXTENSIVE BUILDING WORK CONTINUES THROUGHOUT SUMMER AND INTO AUTUMN TERM 2007.

Work is on schedule to be completed mid November. The new entrance for Key Stage Two is already in use. Meanwhile all pupils and parents are asked to use the wall path to enter and exit school.

Thank You

APPOLOGIES FROM ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.

St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School, situated in George Avenue, Birkby, Huddersfield, is a Voluntary Aided, Co-educational Day School, which admits children of Primary School age, i.e. from the age of four years to eleven years.

The School occupies a pleasant, open site in Birkby and was built in 1970. The building is two-storey and consists of fifteen classrooms, together with a hall and separate dining room. There are spacious playing fields, two playgrounds and a caretaker’s bungalow on site.

The Church has always accepted and propagated that parents are the prime educators of their children, (Vatican II on Education). Our school’s educational enterprise is therefore consistent with and in touch with the realities of the home.

We endeavour to develop all the capacities of a pupil, all those aspects of personality which sometimes remain untouched such as initiative, imagination, creativity, stamina, perseverance and self-confidence. A good self-image leads to respect for others.

Our school is permeated with a Christian vision of life. The pupils are helped to know, love and serve God. This is effected by carefully considered programmes of religious instruction and by the experience of meaningful liturgies. It is further underlined by the caring quality of relationships within the school, the experience of respect for persons and property, the interest in God and the practice of prayer. Children are taught to know that God is always listening to them and is interested to hear whatever they have to say about themselves, their needs, joys, sorrows, hopes, fears and that they can talk to God in whatever language they find easiest to use.

Our policy reflects the Church’s teaching on multi-ethnic education. Our aim is to counter prejudice, racism and sexism. We encourage a critical interest and concern in local and national news and a more informed understanding.

In striving for these authentic values and ideals, we hope that our pupils will be able to assess and sift all that is good in the secular world and assimilate it into their religious faith, not to distort but to enrich it. They will then grow up to be committed Catholics without being sectarian.

This is our vision.

If there is no vision, there is little vitality
