St Peter`s C E Primary School
Moor Lane, EX9 6QF, UK Budleigh Salterton

St Peter's is a Church Aided School situated on the edge of the popular seaside town of Budleigh Salterton. The dramatic coastline, the beautiful Otter Valley and the rich wildlife habitat of Woodbury Common provide a wide variety of educational environments for our pupils to study.

The school has an extensive site which offers excellent recreational and educational facilities, both indoors and outdoors. We have a spacious Nursery which caters for 3 and 4 year old children. The buildings are on one level and all classrooms and teaching areas are easily accessible.

There is a large playing field, an all-weather playground, an environmental area and a covered swimming pool. A designated computer suite and library are located in separate buildings.

We aim to:

  • provide a rich and varied curriculum, inspired by stimulating teaching and rooted in first-hand experience
  • be a good role model to children an set a positive example through our interactions and the way we conduct ourselves on a daily basis
  • encourage partnership within and across the community so that staff, pupils, parents and citizens of Budleigh access an inclusive approach to learning
  • promote a healthy life style, enabling children to be well rounded members of the community
  • provide high quality pastoral care that is built on valuing and respecting individuals with their own unique social and emotional needs
  • embrace new technologies and use them to enhance children’s learning and prepare them for life long learning

The curriculum at St Peter’s School exceeds the formalities of the legal requirements as we also take into account the social and personal development of individuals within the school.

When planning the content of the 12 curriculum areas, we take account of the spiritual, moral, cultural and physical development of the children, bearing in mind their age, abilities and the many different backgrounds from which they come. We aim to be creative and flexible with our teaching and learning. At certain times of the year there may be a key focus which gives greater time to one curriculum are, eg a ‘maths week’. We always ensure that the balance is redressed over the course of the whole year.

As well as a formal timetabled curriculum, we offer the chance for children to follow other interests during lunchtime breaks and at after-school clubs.

These are run by staff, parents and members of the wider community and include cross-country running, country dancing, football, netball, line dancing, skipping, recorders, art and environmental.

We are grateful to all those who give their time and expertise to enrich our school life and are happy to hear from anyone who would like to start a new venture.

*a small charge of £5 per term is made to defray costs as well as sharing commitment and value to the activity.
