St Philip's first opened in September 1987 and quickly established itself as a popular and successful school, growing from an initial forty five children on role to its current size of four hundred plus within a very short space of time.
The school has undergone three very successful OFSTED inspections and we have achieved successive ARTMARK Gold accreditations during the last four years.
The school's popularity and success is due to a number of factors but primarily (according to parental feedback) due to our broad and rich curriculum provision and our emphasis on the development of the whole child. Parents state that the school provides a caring Christian environment which supports and encourages to succeed.
Other factors which contribute to our success are:
- Our dedicated and hardworking staff
- Excellent behaviour management systems
- A fantastic learning environment and facilities
- Close links and the support of our church
- Excellent parental support and partnership
- Hardworking and effective governors
However, perhaps our greatest strength is summed up by the recent OFSTED judgement which judged that children's enjoyment of school was outstanding!
The school provides a wide range of homework including

Literacy activities
At Y5 and Y6 children are set additional homework in Literacy and Numeracy linked to preparing them for end of Key Stage Two tests and all children are invited to participate in additional activities related to project work.

DA VINCI LEARNING NETWORK
In 2005 the school was fortunate to receive funding from the Dfes to establish a learning network with four other schools-
- Cobbs Infants
- Ravenbank CP
- Grappenhall Heys CP
- Thelwall Infants.
The network chose the name Da Vinci because of the artists ability to develop a range of work which linked what we now think of as distinct curriculum areas. As schools are now asked to make cross curricular links to improve children’s learning Leonardo seemed to be a good role model!
The network bid for funding was focussed on researching and developing creativity through the use of the arts as a tool for learning, with a specific focus on raising achievement in writing.
Since 2005 the network has provide a range of INSET opportunities for staff and produced resources to support the development of creativity.
The network also contributed to the national network learning conference in Birmingham in 2006.
One of the key tools that teacher’s are using across the network is the Da Vinci Log which is a record each teacher keeps with his/her class to track the impact of creative experiences in relation to writing.
Examples of the log and a power point presentation outlining the aims of our learning network are accessible by clicking the links below. |
