The joy of learning and caring about our world

St. Saviour's Nursery and Infant School is situated on the outskirts of the fabulous Georgian city of Bath, in the U.K. We have 200 enthusiastic and brilliant children in our school, aged between 3 and 7, and you can find out about their school life on this web site.

Please use the menu to access the different pages of our site. We hope you enjoy the visit!

Church of England School Ethos Statement

Recognising its historic foundation, St Saviour's Church of England Nursery and Infant School, will develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocese level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

St Saviour`s is a very happy and caring place where every individual has a role in creating a school we can all be proud of.   The purpose of this booklet is to give you an insight into the daily life of our school and answer some of the questions which will inevitably arise from time to time. There is an additional handbook for the Nursery class which is given to parents and carers of new Nursery children.

Some of the things we are particularly proud of are:

  • Child Initiated Learning: we are pioneers in providing daily opportunities for children to direct their own learning by making decisions about what and how they learn.  Children and staff together create the curriculum through which we deliver the foundation and national curriculums.  Children have time throughout the week to explore their own ideas and interests during `Discovery Time`.
  • The Children`s Society, Children`s Rights Charter: This charter mark is awarded to organisations which actively listen to children and enable them to participate in decision making.  We were the first school in Bath to receive the award in summer 2003.  Each year since then, we have gained recognition as having outstanding strategies in place to seek childrens opinions.  This includes children taking part in the recruitment of new staff; making decisions about their learning experiences and about the resources we have in the school.
  • Our last Ofsted Inspection took place in December 2003.  It identified a wide range of Very Good and Excellent practice in the school.  In particular, the inspection identified the childrens involvement in decision making; our inclusive ethos which ensures everyone is included equally in all aspects of school life, and the leadership of the Headteacher as being Excellent.   A summary of the report is contained in this handbook, but you can read the full report on our website or borrow a copy from school.
  • The school is recognised within the local authority as providing excellent early learning experiences.  We regularly receive visitors from other schools in the authority and nationally, who want to find out how to do things the St Saviour`s ways.

Developing an open and honest relationship with parents and carers is central to all that we do.  With your help and involvement we can ensure that your child`s time with us is happy, challenging and rewarding and that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to learn effectively and independently.

We have endeavoured to make the information contained in this handbook as clear and helpful as possible, however, if there is anything you would like to discuss in more detail please come in to see us or telephone.

Children's Learning

We are very proud of all the work our children do. Every half term each class is introduced to a new topic. We have put some of their work on the following pages so that you can see all the great things they do! The work shown at present is from last half term. As the new term progresses we will update these pages. So come and visit our class rooms and find out what has been happening.

The school strives to provide the children with many extra curricular activities. These activities seek to enhance the children's experience of school and provide opportunities for them to explore their talents and interests.
