WELCOME!

The school is established on a pleasant open site within walking distance of the attractive market town of Saffron Walden. Serving the parishes of Saffron Walden, Thaxted, Bardfields and Stansted. The building is spaciously designed with KS1 and KS2 departments, consisting of individual classrooms and group activity areas. There is a large assembly/dining hall which is also equipped for physical education. A kitchen adjoins the hall. The school has a music area, a library, KS2 and KS1 activity area, a special education needs room, and a science and ICT suite.

Our School Aims

The school aims to provide an education guided by the beliefs of the Catholic church and seeks to develop the potential of each pupil so that he or she may enter secondary education with confidence. To this end we encourage the development of high standards of self-discipline and the habit of sustained work. The school stresses the importance of learning to be a responsible member of the school, parish and home community. From the beginning we teach courtesy, honesty and consideration for others through example and instruction. Parental support in all aspects of school life is not only welcomed but considered essential for the successful development of pupils.

ABOUT US

Thomas More is a National Healthy School. We operate our own catering service. We have a friendly catering team who offer two choices of nutritionally balanced but traditionally cooked lunches, freshly prepared on our premises on a daily basis, offering fresh vegetables (and salad in summer months), with a choice of home cooked deserts, or if preferred a selection of fresh fruit or yogurt of the child's choice. This is based on a 4 week rolling programme.
Example menus can be viewed by clicking the links below
We also cater for children who require special dietary needs, i.e. vegetarians and children with allergies.

As required by law, the Governing Body will not admit more than 30 pupils to any one class in Key Stage 1.

St. Thomas More Catholic Primary School founded in 1970, is situated in the Diocese of Brentwood and is maintained by the Essex local Education Authority.
The Governing Body of the School is responsible for determining the policy relating to the admission of pupils to the school. It is guided in that responsibility by the requirements of the law, by the advice of the Diocesan Trustees, and its duty to the school and the Catholic Community.
The LEA is responsible for co-ordinating the administration procedure and for offering school places.
Places are offered primarily to children resident within the school’s catchment area. (See map).
Having consulted the LEA and others in accord with the requirements of the law, the Governing Body has set as its planned admissions number 30 pupils for the school year commencing September.
Parents wishing to apply for a place in the school for their child in the next school year must complete the Essex Common Application Form and a School Supplementary Information Form. The Common Application Form must be returned to Essex County Council Admissions by the published closing date. The Supplementary Information Form should be returned to the school by the same published closing day. It should be noted that all applications will be considered at the same time.
In accord with the provisions of the regulation 49 of the Education (School government) Regulations 1999, the Governing Body has delegated responsibility for determining admissions to its Pupil Related Committee.
Pupils who are admitted to the school will enter the reception class in September each year.
In the event of over subscription in any or all of the categories of the criteria places will be offered to those with siblings in the school followed by closest proximity to the school, measured by a straight line distance from home to school in miles.
