| WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!
Stoke Damerel is a vibrant and forward thinking community of
teachers and learners. We appreciate the individuality and unique
strengths and talents of each student and encourage everyone
to invest in their education. We take great pride in the fact that
more and more of our students enjoy success in every possible
way and at every level. We seek to provide the very best
educational experience so that all our students can reach their
full potential as they become responsible and proactive members
of our community.
|
| To be respected as the leading specialist training College in
the South West. Stoke Damerel Community College will be
at the centre of innovative, challenging and dynamic learning
involving all members of the community. |
| Our system of pastoral care consists of year teams of
tutors, each led by a Learning Manager and Assistant
Learning Manager. These teams monitor the academic
progress and personal development of the students in
their charge providing continuous guidance and support
in order to secure each child’s welfare and happiness.
Parents who want to discuss the progress of their child
or any matters of concern are encouraged to contact
their child’s form tutor in the first instance. |
| Stoke Damerel provides a broad, balanced and
integrated curriculum which:
- Enables all young people to be successful
- Prepares students for the opportunities and
responsibilities of adult life
- And promotes spiritual, moral and social development.
Students are encouraged to make the most of their talents
and abilities, working in a challenging, flexible way, which
emphasises both co-operation and initiative. Progress is
monitored carefully. Examination expectations are high. |
| The college Sixth Form is open to any student who
would benefit from continuing his or her education
beyond the age of 16. We offer an excellent choice of
AS Level, A Level, BTEC and vocational qualifications.
We work closely with two other Plymouth-based
community colleges — John Kitto and Tamarside — as
part of the Sixth Form Confederation in order to offer the
widest possible opportunities for students. You can choose
from subjects in any of the three colleges and there is free
transport between the three college sites.
Vocational education here is also very successful.
You can select from over 50 level one and two courses.
Other courses and qualifications include First Aid, COPE
award, The Prince’s Trust Project and Leadership Awards.
All Sixth Form students follow an enrichment and tutorial
programme and you will have the opportunity to participate
in a variety of activities including performances, debates,
sports and leisure programmes, and community service. |
| A wide-ranging programme of activities is available
during the week both at lunchtime and after school
offering such diverse activities as the Duke of Edinburgh
Award Scheme, Technology and Dancing. The Bulletin,
circulated to staff and students and available on our
website, carries full details of what is happening each
week at college. |
