WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Stoke Gabriel School was founded in 1686 and for generations has been a central feature of the community. The present building dates from 1876. A major building project was completed Easter 2005. This provided us with our three new modern classrooms and a well equipped library. The two existing classrooms were converted into a large school hall. We also have an additional teaching room as well as the kitchen and staff offices.

The grounds are delightful. We are fortunate in having a marvellous sports field and an environmental area. We also have a playground and a garden featuring a pond, fruit trees, a play area and a quiet area. The village and surrounding areas are beautiful with woodlands and the River Dart providing a wealth of environments for us to visit.

EYHOS AND VALUES

At Stoke Gabriel we aim to provide a caring, understanding and happy atmosphere. We are concerned with the acquisition and practice of good manners, politeness, consideration for others and the environment. Our Behaviour Policy is included in this Prospectus.

We hope that any child with a social or academic difficulty will feel able to approach the staff with confidence. We will do all we can to solve the problem. Bullying is not tolerated.

CURRICULUM

We provide a broad and varied curriculum with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Science, ICT and Religious Education are also key areas of our educational provision. We also teach the six non-core subjects - history, geography, design and technology, art, music and P.E. To improve coverage enjoyment and understanding of these subjects we have adopted a 3 year rolling programme, using a cross curricular approach where possible and developing six key skills:

  • Communication,
  • Problem solving,
  • Application of mathematics
  • IT
  • Working with others
  • Improving learning and performance

CLUBS

We run a number of lunchtime and after school clubs including sport, art, recorders, choir, drama and music clubs. All children are invited to take part in these activities and if space allows or activities are suitable younger children may join.
