Stoodley Knowle is an independent girls school set in 65 acres of wooded headland, overlooking the sea at Anstey's Cove, Torquay. The school has extensive facilities with many listed buildings of historic interest, including the 13th century Ilsham Chapel which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.

We are a Catholic/Christian foundation, a warm and caring community where each individual is considered unique, and equal emphasis is placed on academic performance and personal development. We welcome girls from all Christian denominations and admission is by interview, report from existing school and entrance assessment.

High calibre dedicated staff, small classes and a broad and balanced curriculum are reflected in Stoodley Knowle's outstanding record of academic achievement, which consistently put us in "top of the league" positions.

Girls at Stoodley discover more in themselves than they ever thought possible. We strive to nurture a happy and confident young person ready to face the challenges of the modern world inspired by Christian ideals. In a positive and caring environment, we encourage self esteem, high moral standards, respect and care for each other, and a spirit of shared purpose and community service.

Girls participate in a wide range of activities led by committed and enthusiastic staff and their achievements are outstanding.

We place great importance on the liaison between home and school and welcome regular and open contact with parents.

Lifeskills at Torquay Fire Station , Pizza Express, Joseph at Princess Theatre, Buckfast Abbey, Paignton Green Roadshow, Dawlish Warren, Gaia Wind Farm, Spanish Experience at Bristol, Theatre Alibi at Dartington, Godspell at Princess Theatre, Tate and Barbara Hepworth Museums in St Ives, Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge, Houses of Parliament and London Docklands, The Davis Cup in London, and the Clothes Show in Birmingham. The girls also enjoy several overseas trips, including visits to France, Italy, Austria and Australia.

Stoodley has also begun a regeneration project in its beautiful woodland overlooking the sea - nature trails have been created, trees thinned and others planted.

This delightful environmental classroom offers opportunities for seeing deer, badger, foxes, many birds and, over the coming months, more and more wild flowers.

Throughout the school we make full use of the wonderful amenities on our doorstep.

At Stoodley Knowle, the ICT curriculum is based on the acquisition of transferable skills. Pupils take both internal and external ICT examinations, which prepare them for both further education and life in the modern workplace. Senior pupils' external 'examination record' is outstanding.

OCR NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS: During 2007 64 girls from Years 9 - 12 took the Text and Word Processing examinations at Stages One and Two. 84 Pass and/or Distinction grades were awarded.

THE INTERNET is available in all sections of the school and, as in all schools, access is password protected and currently restricted to 'only with adult supervision'.

In the Nursery, the computer is used to demonstrate and reinforce learning activities, such as reading and mathematics.

This is made fun through a selection of interactive educational software.

The Junior ICT room has six computers, colour printers and a scanner which are used by pupils for project work.
Girls in the Junior School won a computer system for the school when they entered an environmental competition. Girls can also increase their computer skills and their knowledge of a wide variety of software packages in the Junior ICT Club.

The Senior ICT room is available for use by pupils when the room is not being used for classes. We also have computers in the Careers Room and the Art Room where all art students can explore Visual Art software; this includes graphic design, CAD, desktop publishing, animation, photographic manipulation and enhancement, and use of hyperlinked interactive multimedia.

The Senior ICT Club offers girls the opportunity to extend their computer skills, improve their investigative abilities, and undertake research using the Internet, as well as giving them the facility to present their work in a professional format.
