Welcome to Stourfield Infant School

I am delighted to welcome you to our website and I hope that it helps you to enjoy some aspects of our school.

In Stourfield Infant School the children come first. Everything we do in school is to help the children feel safe, happy, motivated and clear in their learning and relationships. The school has a highly-skilled staff team and we pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and learning for our pupils (Ofsted gave us Grade 1 in all areas in Jan/Feb 2007).

We are proud of our school and of the good values we promote, as well as the excellent achievements of our children. The children are partners with us in learning. We work very closely with parents, Stourfield Junior School and many outside agencies to maintain a high quality experience for the children. The school is a centre for the Development of Thinking Skills’ and as such we equip pupils to take an active part in their own learning and social relationships.

Our children are delightful and every child deserves the best start to school life. Please, do come and visit us. We are sure that you will enjoy what you see.

School Admissions

Pupil Admissions to Stourfield Infant School

Information for Parents about School Admissions

Admission to Stourfield Infant School is in accordance with policy set by the Education Authority. Priority for places is given to children living near to the school. If there are not sufficient places for all local children, then those who already have brothers and sisters in the school are given priority.

Parents who wish to enrol their child, are invited to make an appointment with Mrs Kirkham, who will be delighted to show them the school and discuss their child’s needs. Appointments can be made by telephoning the school.

The following information has been taken directly from the Bournemouth Borough Council publication 'Starting Primary School' it provides general information to tell you about the legal position and help you decide when your child should start school:

When should my child start school?

If your child was born between 1 September 2002 and 31 August 2003 he or she may, if you wish, start school in September 2007, when your child will be four years old.

Does my child have to start school at 4?

No. According to the law your child has the right to be admitted to school full-time at the start of the school term following his or her 5th birthday. Therefore, it is for you to decide whether you wish your child to be included with the group of four-year-olds who will start school in September 2007 (or January 2008 if deferring admission).

Does my child have to start in September?

It is often possible for your child to delay starting school until January 2008. This is called 'deferred entry'.

The arrangements for, and implications of, deferring your child's school starting date vary between school, so you need to be sure you know the position at the school you prefer. For example, if your preferred school is a Bournemouth Local Authority community or voluntary controlled school you can wait until January 2008 before starting your child at school without affecting the offer of the school place. Voluntary aided schools may have different arrangements, and you should be sure to check this with the school concerned.

What if I wait until my child is 5 before starting school?

The implications of starting school at a time other than September or January depend on the type of school you prefer and how many (if any) places are still available at the time you wish your child to start. If demand for places at the school you prefer is greater than the number of places available, a 'late admission' place cannot be guaranteed.

Do any schools have 'reserve' places?

No.

'Thinking for now, Thinking for the future.'

Our Vision Statement

Our passionate vision is to create an inclusive Community School which promotes high expectations of success and recognises achievement in all areas of development. Stourfield Infant School thinks about the needs of all its children, now and for their future.

Every child is an individual with unique talents and our school strives to ensure that all children begin to develop an initial understanding of their potential, as a contribution to life-long learning.

We teach children to take positive, proactive responsibility for thinking about their own learning, thinking about how to learn together and about the outcomes of their words and actions.

Stourfield Infant School achieves this by developing a broad, balanced and nurturing curriculum. We build and model relationships which are based on mutual respect, honesty and care. We provide an environment and curriculum that is stimulating, creative and flexible to meet the needs of each individual child in our care.

Together we can nuture and encourage confident, self motivated children, who enjoy learning, through an enhanced curriculum.
