WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Stover is one of the South West's leading independent day and boarding schools for girls and boys aged 3-18yrs.

Set in 60 acres of beautiful grounds, close to Dartmoor. Stover enjoys the benefit of a rural location but has the advantage of an excellent network by road, rail and plane.

Our aim is to provide a supportive, nurturing environment enabling pupils to acquire excellent qualifications and the confidence to achieve their aspirations both now and in the future. Children at Stover are happy; they thrive and flourish. We are proud of our record of achieving outstanding results at GCSE and A-Level, which are testament to the hard work of the pupils and staff.

NURSERY

In accordance with the ‘Diamond' Model of education, our Nursery and Pre-Preparatory Department are co-educational. There is much evidence to suggest that girls and boys benefit from learning together at this young age. It allows them to form friendships and working partnerships with both genders that will continue throughout their time at school.

We cover six areas of learning in a practical, age and stage appropriate manner in line with Government guidelines. Staff constantly monitor, assess and plan for whole group and individuals to ensure a positive experience for all. The Staff encourage the children to take an active part in helping to create a profile of their lives at home and in school.

Our children have frequent access to our own nursery garden and we constantly make use of the incredible 60 acres and beautiful countryside within the school grounds. These fantastic grounds offer our pupils the chance for daily exploration: picnics in the jungle, close observation of animals, birds and plant life, sporting activities and team games. Wet weather does not deter us, all children are provided with protective outdoor clothing and boots.

PREPARATORY

Stover's key ethos is the delivery of a high quality education, delivered in small classes in accordance with Christian principles that enable pupils to acquire the qualifications, confidence and skills required to lead rewarding and successful lives as good citizens.

The Preparatory School offers the National Curriculum enhanced with additional subjects, enabling pupils to follow a broad, balanced and forward looking academic programme.

At Stover, we aim to create an environment in which our pupils have a variety of options available in which they can learn to be responsible for their education and each other. We also aim to provide a service where our pupils are supported in their studies and allowed to participate fully in school life. Stover pupils are encouraged to be courteous and kind.

SENIOR

Our aim is to develop a range of skills to enable our pupils to become competent and confident individuals prepared for professional and family life in the 21st century. Balancing established qualities with progress. We are very conscious of the setting of the school and our inheritance from past generations of pupils, staff and parents.

The curriculum at Stover comprises a broad, well balanced spectrum with the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science being supported by ICT, Geography, History, Music, Drama, French, German, Spanish, Art, Home Economics, Physical Education, RE and PSE.

Outside the main school sports Stover operates an extensive extra-curricular programme of outdoor pursuits. Girls and boys can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels as well as take part in Activity Weekends run to expose pupils to new experiences such as pot-holing, abseiling and trekking. Again the ability to take on challenges, work as part of a team and to take responsibility are key objectives of this aspect of education at Stover. One of the main events of the outdoor pursuits year is the Ten Tors competition, walked over 35 and 45 miles in two days, for which pupils prepare and train for many months.

SIXTH FORM

Class sizes are small and teachers and tutors know each student well. The tutor support system and pastoral care is particularly strong here. The sixth form is a positive, friendly place where each individual is made to feel part of things. Extra curricular and sporting opportunities are numerous and exciting. With regular trips, excursions and social events also on offer, Stover sixth formers are active and happy.

The Sixth Form is a place for hard work, fun, making lasting friendships, developing increased independence and confidence and being well equipped for life after Stover. As part of the 6th Form, you will have a unique identity:

  • You have your own centre for study and relaxation
  • Within the centre you will have an individual study space
  • The Senior Tutor is always on hand to give advice
  • The Head of 6th Form is always there for regular chats and a cup of tea
  • Develop your leadership skills by becoming a prefect
  • You may even have the drive and ambition to be our Head Boy or Head Girl.
