I extend a sincere welcome to you, the parents, carers and guardians of our pupils.

The educational and physical well-being of the children is our common concern. Tarbert Academy staff are concerned with much more than academic education although that is a high priority. We are concerned with the overall development of our pupils' minds, bodies and personalities. Our particular aims are:

• to encourage development of the talents, character and personality of every pupil to the highest possible level.
• to foster tolerance and understanding of others.
• to develop all pupils to the highest level of which they are capable in numeracy and literacy, recognising as we do that these basic skills are essential for all other learning.
• to encourage in our pupils a commitment to high standards of work at whatever level of ability the pupil is capable of working. The guiding principle is that whatever is done should be done well. This is especially important when what we do is depended on by others.
• to provide courses which are appropriate to the interests, needs and abilities of the pupils.

I would like to emphasize that we rely on parents to help us to achieve our educational aims. Without your active support and help our effectiveness is seriously limited. There is no substitute for a supportive and encouraging home background. Similarly, in school we seek to celebrate achievement and recognise and reward effort at school assemblies and at our annual prizegiving in June.

Please feel free to come into school at any time, although a phone call to make arrangements will be appreciated. I shall be pleased to see you personally or I shall gladly make arrangements for you to see any member of staff.
