Welcome to GODOLPHIN

Godolphin offers a broad based liberal education in a happy purposeful atmosphere where everyone counts and every achievement is valued, whether academic, artistic, creative, sporting or social. Students are encouraged to explore every opportunity, so developing their talents, interests and personalities.

There is a wide-ranging academic curriculum and an outstanding range of other activities and pursuits.

Godolphin students are encouraged to develop responsibility, initiative, independence, sensitivity and tolerance within a vibrant and supportive community. We hope that they learn to give rather than to take, to relish a challenge, to have fun and to enjoy life.

Students leave Godolphin as well-qualified, assured and committed young adults, excited about the future and ready to take their place in the wider world.

Godolphin offers a first class education. I hope you will come and see for yourself, and I look forward to welcoming you.

Headmistress

The Admissions Process

Registration

At the time of your visit you will be given a registration form to be returned to Mrs Power, together with a registration fee of £200 (£100 is returnable on the first school bill). This places your daughter on the list for the proposed year of entry, but does not constitute an offer of a place at this stage. You can register your daughter from the age of seven.

Confirmation of Entry

About eighteen months before your daughter is due to enter Godolphin, we shall ask you to confirm her registration by completing a form stating that The Godolphin School is your first choice, and returning it to Mrs Power, together with a deposit of £200. This deposit is returnable at the end of your daughter’s time at the School.

Formal Offer and Acceptance of a Place

Provided your daughter reaches the required standard in her Common Entrance examination, you will receive a formal offer of a place at Godolphin within two weeks of these examinations.  At this time we ask you to complete and return a form of acceptance, together with a second deposit of £200. This deposit is returned along with a first deposit, at the end of your daughter’s time at the School, but is not returned if she does not take up her place.

Candidates for the Sixth Form

Entry to our Sixth Form is based on an interview and on written papers, usually in two of a candidate’s proposed A Level subjects. We also ask her existing Head for a reference and she will be expected to gain a minimum of five GCSE at grades C or above, with an expectation that she will gain at least B grades in subjects she expects to study at A Level.

Preview (11+ - 13+ candidates)

Your daughter will be invited to attend a Preview Day at Godolphin during the Autumn Term before she takes her Common Entrance Examination. This helps us confirm that she is on track for success at Common Entrance, and we shall write to you and your daughter’s school to tell you how she fares.  Preview Day also gives your daughter the opportunity to spend some time at Godolphin, and for us to get to know her. We strongly recommend that all candidates attend, but would reassure you that an inability to do so will not jeopardise your daughter’s chances of a place: this is wholly dependent on her reaching the required standard in her Common Entrance. Some schools do not prepare pupils for Common Entrance: if your daughter’s is one of these, please contact Mrs Power for advice.

The School Day

For boarders, the day begins with breakfast at about 8.00am. All students must arrive for registration with tutors at 8.25am, and this time is followed by assembly on most days, or by an extended tutor period. Lessons begin at 8.50am: each is 35 minutes long, and many are timetabled as doubles. They continue until lunch at 12.50pm, with two breaks at 10.00am and 11.20am. Lessons resume at 2.00pm and end at 3.45pm.

Tea time then offers toast and the opportunity to socialise, and it is followed by three prep or activity sessions before supper in Houses at 6.45pm. All Sarums stay for the first of these sessions until 5.00pm, and many stay later. After supper, boarders have a chance to relax or to finish prep, with lights out scheduled according to age and starting at 9.30pm.
