Curriculum
The Mill School curriculum is based on the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. The school has retained traditional elements whilst keeping pace with changes in modern education.
We believe children find secuity in routine so a formal timetable is followed by each class. Small class sizes allow each child to receive individual attention which in turn allows them to fulfil their potential.
The curriculum aims to prepare children for any future opportunity or responsibility. The education they receive at The Mill School will also be a strong basis for further education.
Year 6 children receive preparation for all types of Entrance Examination, in consultation with their parents. The Mill School is not affiliated to any one senior school and has an exceptional success rate for entry to many independent and grammar schools.
Our Day
A typical day at The Mill School involves arrival at school between 8.45 and 8.55. Registration is followed by a timetabled lesson which continues until Assembly. Break follows and lessons restart at 10.55. A freshly cooked two course lunch is served at 12.40 to all the children. The children sit in House groups which ensures a mixed age range on each table. Afternoon school recommences and after two further lessons ends at 4.00pm. Some children then remain at school for another hour to join in with one of the many clubs on offer.
During the year there are many non-typical day. This might be due to educational visits in and out of school, sporting events and fixtures. Each Form teacher is encouraged to arrange at least one educational trip per term. The school has recently visited Slimbridge, Berkeley Castle, Portsmouth Docks, Bristol Zoo, Stourhead, Wilton House, Dinosaur Museum Dorchester and Wookey Hole.
All in all the children at the Mill enjoy a busy, structured day. All children from Form 4 onwards have a prep activity to complete each night at home. |
