Welcome to Palmer C.E. (Aided) Junior School
Dear Parent,
Whether you already have children at Palmer Junior, or you are looking as a prospective parent, I hope you find this site interesting and informative.
The Palmer Church of England (Aided) Junior School promotes attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility between adults and children alike. Our school provides an inclusive caring and welcoming environment.
We aim to provide an excellent academic, social and spiritual education within a Christian context enabling individuals to develop their full potential. The school provides equal opportunities for all.
The Palmer School is distinguished by developing in its pupils a sympathetic understanding of the Christian Faith, whilst welcoming all children from the local community and within the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints Church.
Strong links exist between school, home and the parish community.

History of Palmer
The Palmer Church of England Aided Junior School is the oldest school in Wokingham although it has been on several sites in its 291 year history. The first record for the provision for the Foundation of the school was in the will of Martha Palmer dated June 12th 1713. The school was sited variously in Denmark Street and in Rose Street and in 1872 steps were taken to build a new school in Palmer School Road in 1875. The foundation stone of that school now stands outside our present building.
The "old" Palmer School in the centre of town closed in May 1973 and the present school opened on 4th June 1973.
The Palmer Church of England Junior School became an Aided school in 2004, formalising the close links between the school, All Saint’s Church Wokingham and the Diocese of Oxford. It is a junior school for children between the ages of seven and eleven and is a small school with 137 children on roll at time of printing. Small class sizes are a strength of the school and vary from 20 - 26 with an excellent pupil to teacher ratio.
Our school provides a caring and welcoming environment for all our children. We believe that happy children are able to learn and to grow into well rounded individuals.
What Kind of School Are We?
At Palmer we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school. We value each individual, their uniqueness and the contribution they can make to our school community. We provide a safe, caring, enjoyable and challenging learning environment.
Our aim is to enable every child to achieve his/her full potential. As well as an excellent academic education the school provides opportunities to experience the full range of artistic, creative, sporting and musical activities that can be provided within and in addition to the national curriculum.
The school has close links with All Saints' Church, Wokingham and assemblies are regularly taken by the clergy team. The ethos of the school is based on Christian principles and reflects the caring attitude of all the teaching and support staff and the children.
The school includes a unit for up to 20 physically disabled pupils. For the majority of the time our disabled children are fully integrated, with support, into mainstream classes.
The school is very fortunate in its external environment. The site covers approximately 2/3 acres which includes a large playing field. There is also a tarmac playground, an adventure playground and a willow maze. We have an outdoor heated swimming pool, which is used for swimming lessons in summer. There is an outdoor nature area with a pond, which has a range of wildlife including newts, frogs and other pond life!
