This section has been produced to ensure you are fully informed about our approach to the curriculum your son/daughter will be offered during Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11).

At Sweyne Park we like to involve parents directly in the work of our
school. A strong home-school partnership is essential if pupils are to
achieve their best in public examinations and to take a full part in all
that the school offers.

Please read through this section carefully and feel free to comment to us on its content. We hope you will find it a useful guide to your son/daughter’s curriculum.

Admissions Policy:

Pupils living in the area served by the school at the time of application and determination will be allocated a place at the school. Those living in the catchment area and applying for entry at Year 7 must submit an application by the closing date for the year of intake. Up to five places are allocated for pupils with hearing impairments who are placed at the school due to its enhanced provision. Priority will be given to looked after children.

In the event of over-subscription any remaining places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

• children with a sibling attending the school
• remaining applicants determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above.

Sweyne Park jumper. Sweyne Park tie. Sweyne Park blue shirt. Plain black woven fabric, non stretch, tailored, regular fit trousers or plain black knee length tailored skirt in school style. Black ankle socks/tights or flesh coloured tights. Sensible leather/plastic black shoes. (No trainers, boots or stilettos, platforms or heels higher than 5cms or 2 inches.) When necessary - plain outdoor coats. (Waterproof and sensible for schoolwear. Denim is not allowed.) Earrings. (One small plain stud in each earlobe.) No other visible jewellery should be worn except an inexpensive wristwatch. Any maked-up worn should be discreet so that it is virtually unnoticed. Extreme hairstyles are not acceptable.

There are lots of clubs and activities to satisfy most hobbies and interests. Pupils are encouraged to get involved, develop new skills, and improve their schoolwork and to make new friends.

We have a special programmme scheme which runs after school. Details are published each term. You can do lots of PE, Music or Drama activities as well as many other things such as film making, photography or printing. Everyone is urged to Activ8 StayL8. In some of the clubs, such as maths club, you just go along to get extra support and keep up with your classwork or home learning, or you can go along for some fun activities connected with the subject. There are also lots of opportunities to take part in school plays, productions and concerts. Prefects often help with clubs. Home Learning Club really helps you to get used to coping with home learning. They take place lunchtime and every night after school in the library, members of staff are at hand to support you. At clubs you meet lots of different pupils and make friends from other classes.
