Thornaby Church of England School was founded in 1846 by the National Society. It was the first school in Thornaby and was moved in 1964 from the original George Street building to its present site. It is a Primary co-educational school with its own Nursery.

The school is maintained by the Local Education Authority but, as a Voluntary Controlled School, the daily act of Collective Worship is consistent with the faith and practice of the Church of England.

The School Counc

This year a school council was appointed at our school. It has twenty two councillors. They meet every two weeks. The chair person is Jessica and the vice chair person is Sam. The secretary is Aaron. He writes down notes about the meetings. They meet in the nursery. They have lots of good ideas to improve the school.

Interview with Mr A Stevenson

We want to bring lots of ideas to make the school better.

• What made you want to be a school a councillor?

Netball Club

On Tuesdays after school Mrs Sheridan runs a netball club for year 6s. We really enjoy it. First we warm up by running around the outside of the hall. Then we do some footwork. After that we get split up into 2 or 3 groups and play some matches against each other. We have also played some matches against some other schools. We have learnt 3 different passes: one is called the chest pass, another one is called the bounce pass and the last one is a shoulder pass.

Computer Club

On Thursdays, after school, we have a computer club, which is run by Mrs. Quartley. Our first project was "Maths in Motion".

We had to design a car to race around various grand pris tracks. We used a scale to work out the lengths of the straights and a protractor to find the angles of the bends. After that we had to find out the amount of petrol needed for the race. We tried 5 different race tracks . We went to a competition at Stockton City Learning Centre and our school came second.

Now we are designing our school website. We all enjoy computer club a lot and look forward to Thursdays.
