Vision Statement

"Educating concerned, informed, adaptable members of the world community"

Thornhill College, Convent of Mercy Grammar School is an 11-18 girls' college with a student population of 1500 and a staff of 100 teachers. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1886, the college transferred to its present scenic surroundings, three miles north of the city of Derry in 1932. The present principal is

The overall ethos of the school is one which promotes breadth of education and understanding in the pupils. It seeks to enable them to be compassionate, caring human beings with a sense of responsibility towards themselves and and also towards others.

Thornhill enjoys a fine reputation for academic excellence, and for involvement in various educational initiatives which leave the College well poised to face the new millennium. It has made its mark in many other fields, including those of music, drama and sport.
