We all want our children to be happy at school. I am sure that you will gain the sense that this is a happy school. Our students feel comfortable and ‘at home’. Our staff, teachers and our valued support staff, is committed to the school and the community.

We all want our children to be successful at school. Government statistics regularly show students at Tiverton High School do well. Teachers know their students very well and engage with them as individuals. They know that there is no such thing as an ordinary child; every child is extraordinary in some way and we are committed to releasing that individual spark.

We all want our children to have plenty of opportunities to experience a wide variety of activities. We became a specialist arts college because we believe creativity is the spark that lights children’s learning and growth. Our school is the largest in the area and so has access to a very broad range of opportunities for all students and that range continues to grow. For example dance now runs alongside music and drama as an outlet for creative performance. We also benefit from the presence of East Devon College on our doorstep. Many older students have access to courses there and we are not constrained by the transport arrangements that make links with colleges so difficult for most schools.

We all want our children to grow into healthy, happy, balanced adults. Of course examinations are important but probably at the top of most of our lists is that our sons and daughters are successfully guided through their teenage years into adulthood. Tiverton High School has always put particular store by its residential opportunities, outdoor activities (for example our extremely successful Ten Tors teams) and guidance/counselling work. Furthermore, its Citizenship course, for preparing for adult life, has won a national award for its approach.

Schools make a difference to a young person’s life chances, but we can do that best when we work alongside parents. We understand that you know your child best and want to work in partnership with you to do the best we can for your son or daughter.
