Dear Parents,

We welcome you warmly as parents and look forward to a happy and successful association over the coming years. If you already have a child in school, we are pleased to renew the links between us. We hope that you find the information in this booklet both informative and useful.

Through a friendly, caring atmosphere and the close relationships with parents, we aim to show our children that education is a natural process in which School and home work together.

We are also delighted to inform you that the DfES awarded the school with an Achievement Award for Improvement in pupil attainment for 2000. We were awarded the Basic Skills Agency’s Quality Mark in 2002, for the second time in August 2005, the new Healthy School Standard and Clean Air Award in April 2006.

We hope that this initial sharing of information will mark the start of a happy and successful partnership between the school and yourselves in providing the best for your children.

Eileen Kelly

Headteacher

PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

It is very important that the school and parents liaise closely  with each other, to exchange views, discuss problems and to  agree upon a common approach. Opportunities for consultation  are made available during the year; there are parent's evenings in the Autumn and Spring Terms with individual interviews. Parents receive an annual written report on their child's progress at the end of each academic year. These report on all areas of the child's development in school. Records of achievement are kept in school where key pieces of work or assessment or any marked development, be it social or academic is noted.

UNIFORM

Whilst the LEA has a policy that uniform is not compulsory, both Unstone Junior School and Unstone St. Mary’s Infant School have jointly adopted a recommended Code of Dress. This consists of:

  • Red, white or blue polo shirt/T Shirt, with or without school badge

  • Red sweatshirt/cardigan, with or without the school badge

  • Summer dresses (red or blue checked or “polo” dress)

  • Black or navy trousers or skirt

Please make sure all clothes are clearly marked with your child’s name
