Welcome to Valentines - from the Headteacher Mrs Sylvia Jones

I am delighted to welcome you to the Valentines High School website. Valentines is a thriving and dynamic 11 - 19 comprehensive school which boasts excellent examination results and an outstanding curriculum experience in both the sixth form and the main school.

At Valentines students will discover a supportive and friendly environment. High standards of discipline and behaviour are expected and maintained thus ensuring a safe, structured working environment where every individual is encouraged to reach their full potential.

As a High Performing Specialist Teaching School we strive to offer the very best facilities for our students. These are not confined to the specialist subjects of Science, Mathematics and Technology. Currently we can boast a brand new sixth form block (opened in September 2007), state of the art physical education facilities including a new astro-turf pitch and tennis courts, a gym and sports hall, a drama studio, newly equipped music room and brand new or newly refurbished areas for Modern Languages, English and Humanities.

Valentines is also a Training School. This means that we receive extra funding from the government in recognition of our high performing status in order to offer professional training to all our staff. This helps to further raise academic standards.

Valentines supports other schools in their development as a Mentor School and as a Leading Edge School. We are truly at the ’cutting edge’ of new educational developments and leave no stone unturned in seeking ways to further enhance the educational experience of each and every one of our students.

Our school motto is ’In harmony, achieving excellence’ and everything we do is planned to enable us to achieve this vision. Our recent Ofsted inspection (October 2006) placed us in the very highest category - ’Outstanding’ in every section of the report. Outstandingly good attitudes to learning and behaviour, outstanding quality of teaching and outstanding results were all noted as was the outstanding harmony achieved in our diverse school community.

We value our good relationships with parents, well wishers, the local community and our national and international educational partners.

Whatever your reason for accessing this website, I hope that you will find it stimulating and informative and that it will inspire you to find out more about the school of which I am so proud.

Sylvia Jones, Headteacher

SIXTH FORM

Welcome to Valentines High School Sixth Form

The Sixth Form is outstanding and reflects the school’s significant investment in its development. Students’ personal development is outstanding. Students appreciate the high quality of teaching and learning they receive and welcome the calm learning environment. OFSTED 2006

We are a large and very successful sixth form with an excellent reputation in the local community and a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Our students are bright and enthusiastic young people who have chosen to continue their education at Valentines or have been welcomed in to the sixth form from other schools.

At Valentines we have a wide range of courses on offer, all with excellent teaching and high standards of achievement. Progress is carefully monitored so that students can achieve their full potential, with over 90% of our Year 13’s regularly going on to university. We offer a high level of support, with students, teachers and parents working together to ensure success. Expectations are high and so are the rewards.

Our sixth form is a vibrant community with a strong emphasis on personal development. We offer an enrichment programme and many opportunities for our students to develop responsibility and leadership skills. We are very proud of our students who are excellent role models and who thrive in the exciting environment at Valentines.

The sixth form is housed in a brand new building opened in September 2007 which provides excellent facilities.

We have a lot to offer students and hope that you would like to be a part of an outstanding sixth form.
