WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Warberry Primary School is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, opened on 6 January 1972. It was built on the site of the former Winchester Lodge Preparatory School for Boys, and extended in October 1989 as a replacement for the old Torwood C E School and Madrepore Road annexe.

There are 11 classrooms, including 2 brand new classrooms, a nursery, a large hall, 2 playgrounds, KS1 and KS2 libraries and a computer suite. We have two playing/sports fields adjacent to school. The children use these for playtimes in the dry summer months and for games lessons (e.g. football, rounders, and athletics). Neighbouring schools of Ellacombe and Ilsham also use the fields for games lessons.

AIMS AND VALUES

Warberry CE VC Primary School aims to provide a happy, safe, stimulating environment, and a curriculum of the highest quality, which will enable our children:

  • To develop a sense of self-respect and individual worth, as well as the ability to co-operate, and where respect for others is encouraged.
  • To respect the religious, spiritual and moral beliefs of others and to consider their own attitudes, values and beliefs; celebrating the Church of England major religious festivals and being provided with Christian principles on which to base their behaviour and life both inside and outside school.
  • To develop lively, enquiring minds, together with a positive wish to learn, to question and to argue rationally, and to apply themselves diligently to task.
  • To develop positive qualities of human feeling and imagination and an appreciation of human achievement and endeavour.
  • To fulfil their potential in acquiring knowledge and skills relevant in a quickly changing world, and to be self-reliant and adaptable.
  • To experience and appreciate the satisfaction of creativity.
  • To appreciate our cultural and artistic heritage.
  • To understand that cultural diversity, race and gender quality are fundamental to good citizenship.
  • To fulfil to the highest standard their own academic potential and to prepare for secondary education.
  • To experience, on a regular basis, residential field study centre experience which provides social experience and education of a high quality.

NURSERY

Boys and girls can be registered for the Nursery Class at any time. A waiting list is held in school and places are allocated to children for the term after their third birthday. There are three points of entry for Nursery. A balance must be maintained between the ages of the children, and boys and girls. Currently all the pupils are part-time, either attending morning sessions (26 children) or afternoon sessions (26 children) for five days a week. There are never more than 26 children in the class at any one time, with the Nursery Teacher and Nursery Nurse.

CURRICULUM

Our Nursery and Reception children follow programmes of work in this foundation stage largely based upon learning through play. The Early Learning Goals set out what is expected for most children by the end of the Foundation Stage. Stepping Stones identify knowledge, skills and attitudes and understanding that children need to achieve the Early Learning Goals. Up to the end of the Reception year, elements of Literacy and Maths may be covered across the day, rather than in a single unit.

Pupils in Key Stage 1 classes (Years 1 & 2) and Key Stage 2 classes (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6) learn from the programmes of study in the National Curriculum. At Warberry School we teach the Literacy Hour and the Numeracy Hour – usually in the morning. The National Curriculum contains many different subjects and these are all taught at Warberry School. We do not always teach these subjects separately, but instead teach topics which incorporate different subjects. We have a rolling programme of themes in Foundation, KS1 and KS2 and these are thoughtfully resourced
