ABOUT US

We are a popular 9-13 Middle School serving the community of the Saxon town of Wareham and surrounding villages in the beautiful Purbecks.

Our aim is to provide all of our pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum in an exciting, well resourced and above all a safe, stimulating environment. Our team of teachers is a well-balanced mix of primary and secondary practitioners supported by an excellent team of teaching assistants and other support staff.

FACILITIES

The School is situated on a superb, twenty acre site, on the western outskirts of Wareham. There is plenty of space, the School having all the advantages associated with inheriting secondary modern facilities. There are twelve classrooms, 2 large science laboratories, music room, extensive design and technology areas, 2 computer rooms, conference room, hall with fully equipped stage, separate gymnasium, library, offices and kitchen. The grounds are spacious with a large playing field area as well as hard-play areas and tennis courts. Recent developments include the latest interactive whiteboard technology installed in the majority of classrooms.

ORGANISATION

The School is organised into four year groups. There are three classes (called Home Bases) in each year under the direction of a Head of Year. On entry to the School, pupils are placed in an appropriate Home Base. The Home Base teacher is responsible for the pupils' day to day welfare. Children born between 1st September of one year and 31st August of the following year are normally kept together as one year group. To be in line with Government recommendations, the National Curriculum and local practice, year groups are numbered 5, 6, 7 and 8. There are approximately 305 children on roll.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum means the sum of all the opportunities for learning provided by a school. It includes both what happens within lessons and the classroom and all that takes place outside that framework. The curriculum is the means by which we try to achieve the aims of the School.

AIMS

  • for the School to be a caring, welcoming and safe place in which pupils can develop their own confidence and abilities.
  • to help pupils develop lively, imaginative and enquiring minds.
  • to help pupils to gain knowledge, ideas and skills.
  • to provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced, meaningful and coherent and which is suited to each child's abilities and needs.
  • to help pupils to use language and number effectively.
