All about Welford Primary School
It's History, Buildings and Organization
Welford Primary School was opened in January 1972. It was designed as a two form entry primary school catering for children aged 4 to 11 years old. In 1978 a Nursery Unit was added and 3 years later a Community Unit was built. More land was later acquired for both recreational and educational purposes. The school has just completed a new extension to the building. This new extension has provided additional office accommodation, teaching rooms, staff room and a computer suite to accomodate 30 children.
The school is a modern building set in the heart of the community of Handsworth, Birmingham. It's buildings are well-maintained as are the grounds. Together they present an excellent environment for young children to learn in and live together. Welford School has up to 420 children on roll aged between 4 and 11. The average class size is 30. In addition 60 children attend the Nursery Unit on a full time basis. The school has an After School Care Club for up to 24 children. This is additional provision at the end of the school day and during part of the school holidays. A Stay-and-Play takes place in the Community Unit three weekday mornings for children aged 2 to 3 years old. Each year the school admits up to 60 children into the Nursery and Reception age groups. |
