Welcome to Wellington School

Wellington School is a thriving, oversubscribed co-educational 11 – 18 Foundation School with Technology College Status.

Our motto is ‘Excellence in Everything’ and that is our aim in everything we do.

To achieve this, high standards are expected of all pupils and we have a dedicated and well qualified staff. Most importantly the partnership between staff, governors, parents and pupils is strong and is a vital factor in sustaining the purposeful working atmosphere which exists throughout the school. Wellington School is proud of its’ reputation and the successes which our pupils have achieved here.

We aim for all our pupils to achieve the best possible academic standards and to develop those qualities which will make them responsible citizens of the future. A School not only should be judged on its results and facilities but also on the fitness of its pupils to succeed in later life. We think we serve our pupils well. More importantly so do others, including OfSTED which rated Wellington as ‘Excellent’, which is the highest category and represents the top 5% of schools in the country and Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools who described us as an ‘Outstanding School’.

As a means of measuring our standards Nationally, we have achieved the ‘Investor in People Award’, the Government’s ‘Charter Mark’ and have been awarded the Department for Education & Skills School Achievement Award’ for excellence on each of the three occasions that it has been presented.

The massive over-subscription for places bears testament to the esteem in which the School is held by the Community. The opportunity for continuous education of the highest quality from 11 to 18 has made Wellington School the automatic choice of the vast majority of parents in the area. At Wellington, the demands are high and pupils are expected to work hard. In return they can expect to be part of our continuing success story.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR SEPTEMBER 2008

Parents seeking a place for their child in Year 7 in September 2008 must include Wellington School in ranked order of preference on their Local Authority’s Common Application Form

Students may be admitted at the age of 11, without reference to ability, aptitude or religious denomination.  The number of intended admissions for the year commencing 1 September 2008 will be 239.

The Co-ordinated arrangements introduced by the 2002 Education Act impose a national “allocation day” of 1 March.  All parents will be notified by their Local Authority on behalf of the Governing Body, of the outcome of their application.

Only applicants born between 1 September 1996 and 31 August 1997 (inclusive) will be considered for entrance into Year 7.

Where the number of applicants for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to determine how the places are awarded:

1.       ‘Looked after’ children (as defined in the Education Act 2002 – Admissions).

2.       Applicants living in the Parish of Christ Church, Timperley, as defined by the Diocese of Chester in October 2002.  If the number of applicants in this category exceeds the number of places available, then the places will be allocated on the basis of proximity of the child’s home address to school, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority.  Distance will be taken as a straight line from the applicant’s front door to the main school entrance.

3.       Applicants living in any of the following Parishes (listed in alphabetical order): All Saints, Hale Barns; St Alban’s Broadheath; St George’s, Altrincham; St John’s, Altrincham; St Margaret’s, Dunham; St Mark’s, Dunham Town; St Mary’s, Bowdon and St Peter’s, Hale; as defined by the Diocese of Chester in October 2002.  If the number of applicants in this category exceeds the number of places available, then the places will be allocated on the basis of distance from the home address to school, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority.  Distance will be taken as a straight line from the applicant’s front door to the main school entrance.

4.       Other applicants on the basis of the child’s home address to school, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority.  If the number of applicants in this category exceeds the number of places available, then the places will be allocated on the basis of distance from the home address to school, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority.  Distance will be taken as a straight line from the applicant’s front door to the main school entrance.

The parish of Christ Church as defined by the Diocese of Chester in October 2002 is available on this link. PDF Map of Parish

The child’s home address means the address where the child normally and permanently lives on a full-time basis, not a temporary address or the address of any carer or relative.  In the case of parents who are separated or divorced and where child-care arrangements are shared between two addresses, both addresses will be used for the purpose of determining priority for admission.  Please contact the school for further information on how this will be applied.

If a successful applicant moves home between the date of allocation and the beginning of term in September 2008, the offer of the place will be reviewed.  As a result of this review, the offer may be withdrawn if an unsuccessful applicant is, as a result of the move, promoted to a higher priority on the School’s admissions criteria.

Wellington School reserves the right to withdraw a place at a later date if it is discovered that false or incorrect information has either been withheld or not provided in order to secure a place.

Unsuccessful applicants may request to be placed on a waiting list and thus be considered for any places that may arise in the future.  These places will be awarded in accordance with the criteria listed above.  Parents who wish to exercise this right must state their intention in writing directly to the school within 14 days of receipt of notification letter.
