Mrs Myers at the entrance to Wentworth Primary School

At Wentworth our mission is ‘striving for excellence'. Staff and children are made aware of our mission whenever possible and we celebrate our successes in all areas of achievement.

We aim to provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced and progressive, which relates to the development of the whole child and which meets individual needs; a curriculum which excites and interests the children and which encourages each child, as a unique individual with special qualities and talents, to make a positive contribution to school life.

IN SCHOOL

Mrs Choat interview

Mrs Choat is a Grandmother of a child who has now left the school. Mrs Choat has come into the school on a voluntary basis for many years and has looked after the library. Last year we had a new library built and when it was finished it was named after Mrs Choat in recognition of all the help she has given to the school, and still does!
Some Year 5 children interviewed Mrs Choat:

  • How many books do you think we have in our library? Answer: 3,738
  • How many fiction books do we have? Answer: About 2000
  • How many non- fiction books do we have? Answer: About 1738
  • How many children go in the library every day? Answer: 90
  • Do you have any further plans for the future? Answer: maybe!

What is a buddy?

The older children in the school are paired with the youngest children in the school.

  • How often do the buddies meet?
Once a week, for about 30 minutes.
  • What do the buddies do together?
Year 5 and Year 1 read to each other and year 6 and Foundation play games as well.
  • Where do the buddies meet? (picture in gallery)
The year 5's and the year 1's meet at the year 1's classroom and the year 6's and Foundation meet at the buddy bay.
  • What is the buddy bay?
An area next to the hall where there are tables, chairs and games. There is a bead frame table.

Wildlife area

In the wild life area there are all types of animals & insects like hedgehogs, ants, even frogs and frog spawn. (picture in gallery)
There are all sorts of plants like stinging nettles, fungi, weeds, ogle, blue bells. We also have a shed & allotments

Every summer each class has a challenge; they have to grow a sunflower. The winner is decided by who ever has the biggest sunflower!

To help keep the area tidy the Head teacher (Mrs.Myers) has formed a team that collects litter called the litter busters.

CLUBS

Able writers Club

Some children are chosen to go to an after school club, taught by Mrs Mead. They do fun writing exercises and fun games such as call my bluff, card games and also they do LOTS more fun games with all sorts of different equipment.

Basketball

This is a club organized by Wentworth primary school and run by Steve, a basketball coach who teaches in many different schools.
At the start we have to warm up so we either play a dribbling game or play a mini game of basketball and we do this so we don't get hurt or pull any muscles.
We learn many different skills every week and there are still many to be learnt in the future .In the summer term we play against different schools across Essex .
Some of our skills are used in an end of term test where we have to do our best to try and use some of the skills we have learnt.

Dance club

At dance club we have lots of fun! We learn a mixture of dances which are all great!
The dances we learn are: CHA CHA SLIDE, SOME GIRLS, TOXIC, GET DOWN ON IT and many more! There are three groups; these include ages 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Our teacher is Stephanie Vincent from VIBES, BEAT & RYTHM!

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is set in the Viking hall. We have all different equipment, like mats, bars, ropes, a springboard and loads more. We work on badges. The badges start on 7 and go on to 1. Then it goes on to bronze, sliver, gold.
You start of with the easy things, like balances and forward rolls. Then you get on to harder things, like round offs and splits. Our teachers are Tony and Julie.

Swimming

Wentworth swimming pool is open Monday-Saturday, with a glistening pool awaiting you (picture in the gallery).
It has four highly qualified swimming teachers who always have a jolly smile on their faces.
The swimming lessons are for all age groups 4-11 after and during school. The swimming club enjoy taking part in galas. You have to be 8 or over to get in the club. At some galas you can get medals.
