ABOUT US

West Moors is a thriving community of children and adults that aims to help every pupil to achieve his or her best through a wide and challenging range of learning opportunities. We seek to provide a safe and secure school environment, but also hold high expectations for teaching, learning and conduct. These aspirations are reflected in our school aims that were drawn up in 2003 with the involvement of all our teachers, teaching assistants and pupils.

West Moors opened in 1977 as a purpose-built comprehensive co-educational middle school for pupils between the ages of 9 and 13 (National Curriculum Years 5 to 8). We currently have 379 pupils on roll. Our pupils have access to: specialist teaching areas for Information Communication Technology, Science, Music, Art and Technology; a canteen; a well-used library and playing fields. Some of these areas and facilities are currently being further upgraded.

AIMS

We want to be a school where:

  • we have the highest expectations and standards – in teaching, learning and conduct;
  • every child achieves their best through a wide and challenging range of learning opportunities;
  • there is a safe, secure and welcoming environment;
  • we work in partnership with parents and the wider community;
  • we celebrate our children’s differences and diversity;
  • there is an enjoyment of teaching and learning;
  • there is a culture of mutual respect - where everyone’s views and opinions are valued; their achievements are celebrated; and their rights are upheld.

EDUCATION

Our curriculum is carefully planned in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum and in consultation with our partner schools.

The life of our school community is enriched by a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom – these include sporting clubs and fixtures, orchestras and bands, outdoor education visits, drama and dance, homework clubs, an active School Council, a radio station and a thriving PTFA that puts on regular events for local families.

We aim to work closely with parents and have a number of means to keep parents closely informed of children’s progress, including parent consultations and annual written reports and Home/School Link Books.
