 Welcome to Westfield Primary School

We want your child's time at our school to be happy and educationally fulfilled. To achieve this we believe it is vital for home and school to work together in partnership, supporting your child as well as we possibly can during his/her school life. We believe that our school is a place where pupils, parents, staff and governors work together with high yet realistic expectations for all; enabling everyone to achieve their true potential.

OUR RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS HAVE BEEN:

Westfield Primary School is proud to be the very first primary school in East Riding to achieve the Financial Management Standard in Schools.  All primary schools will be expected to meet this standard by March 2010 and we are pleased to be able to assure parents that the finances of the school are managed to a high standard.

Achieving an excellent OFSTED inspection in June 2005

`attainment in English and Mathematics is well above average and pupils' attitudes to learning and their behaviour is very good'

Achieving the Healthy School Award and a Gold Award for Inclusion

In 2005 achieving our third renewal of the Basic Skills Quality Charter Mark

`There are no significant weaknesses'

We are a happy and popular school with high standards and expectations. Our team of talented and dedicated staff all work together to provide the best possible education for the children in our care.

We believe the priority is to establish at the children's individual level of accomplishment a secure and relaxed atmosphere where:-

a) They feel they can question, identify difficulties and overcome them without fear;

b) Realistic goals are set for their intellectual, physical, social and emotional development and where they are encouraged to set similar realistic goals for themselves.

c) Their own self image is openly and positively valued by peers and adults;

d) They can understand and plan for the fact that their chosen actions have consequences both beneficial and prejudicial.

CORE INFO

School Prospectus

Our School Prospectus contains information on a wide range of subjects and we hope that you will find it useful. It is available to view/download via the link opposite.

Early Years/Reception

If your child is due to start in our Early Years/Reception class you will also find a link to our Early Years booklet which contains information specific to that department.

English as a Foreign Language in School

Westfield Primary School is located nearby Castle Hill Hospital and the University, therefore English is not always the first language for children who attend this school.

We have therefore, produced a leaflet containing information on how the children are helped in school in addition to information on the local amenities available in Cottingham.

Police Clearance

As a matter of course all parents helping in our school have to have CRB clearance.  If you wish to help in school, you are very welcome but will need to collect a CRB form from the school office and have clearance before coming in on a voluntary basis.  Checks for volunteers are free of charge so please ensure that your certificate is up to date.

Early Admissions

Westfield School has an Early Years class which enables children to begin school at the start of the academic year during which they reach five years of age (1st September - 31st August).  So that your child has the best start we have a programme of familiarisation and phased entry to school, this will be discussed with you prior to admission.

Reception

Children who are five in their first term at school are admitted to the Reception Class in September.  Children who are five on or after 1st January will come in half days only for the first few weeks.
