WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Westlands, established in 1973, is a popular, thriving 11-18 co-educational Bilateral School. Major improvements in the buildings and facilities have taken place within a complete redevelopment programme, which brought the whole School onto one site. The work was completed in October 2001 and provides a fantastic learning environment for Westlands students.

Westlands achieves success, both in the academic and non-academic fields. There is a wide variety of extra-curricular activities offered which help to develop students to achieve their skills and potential.

Westlands also has a proven record of success in placing students from its Sixth Form into Universities, and has numerous students who have continued to gain First Class Honours Degrees.

Westlands applied to become a Training School in 2002 to build on our growing reputation as an excellent provider of training for new teachers.

In September 2003 we became a joint Training School with Coombeshead Media Arts College, Newton Abbot.

The additional funding received is targeted at:

• Improving professional development for all our staff
• Improving the quality and quantity of work with trainee teachers
• Training in the use of new technologies
• Promoting new approaches to teaching Modern Foreign Languages in Primary Schools
• Quality training in student support and inclusion

The Library occupies a light, spacious room on the second floor with panoramic views as far as Dartmoor. It is available for use by all students and staff. We have over 13,000 books, as well as cassette tapes and videos. Leaflets, magazines, newspaper cuttings, and free postcards can also be found in the library. We have a classroom area with whiteboard, a separate designated 6th form study area, and the careers library, as well as computers for doing homework, projects and research. The school stationery shop is open, apart from lesson times, for the purchase of pens, pencils, themed paper, floppy discs, coursework folders and virtually everything else students need to complete their schoolwork.
