Welcome to Westwood Primary School. This website will give you a good deal of information about the school, but you are also welcome to visit us, look round the school and ask any questions you may have. At Westwood, we provide a supportive environment for children and adults to work in, and we expect high standards of work and behaviour. Children should make good progress each year in all subjects. Achievement in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science is particularly important. Children's progress in these areas is carefully monitored.

We also give children many opportunities beyond the taught curriculum. We hold a variety of after school sporting clubs, and are involved in the wider community through music, gardening and environmental work.

Involvement of parents in their children's education is actively encouraged and we aim to have strong links between home and school.

We are proud of our school. We will do the best we can for every child who joins us.

Yours sincerely

Zoe Adams
Headteacher

Our School

Parents are welcome in school. If you are able to help there are many ways in which this can be done:

  • Accompanying school trips
  • Baking/sewing
  • Playing board games
  • Reading activities
  • Helping with art work

If you would like to help in anyway please see class teachers. Criminal checks are compulsory for anyone who helps regularly in school, I am sure you understand the need.

Parents, carers, grandparents etc. are regularly invited into school for such things as sports days, concerts, fun activities and the Annual Parents Meeting.

We Aim:

  1. To ensure that our teaching is of a high standard, enabling children to make good progress in all subjects, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy.

  2. To provide approriately matched challenging work for the children, in order that they obtain the highest standards

  3. To promote the children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through the teaching of the curriculum and the ethos of the school.

  4. To expect high standards in the content and presentation of children's work

  5. To provide a consistent approach to discipline based on a positive behaviour system.

  6. To develop children's self esteem and co-operative skills and to encourage children to take responsibility for their own actions.

  7. To involve parents in their children's education and encourage strong links between home and school.

  8. To foster in children a responsibility for and care of the school environment and to encourage children to be aware of environmental issues in the world outside.

  9. To provide equality of opportunity for all children, and to encourage undertanding and respect for the diverse multi-cultural society we live in.
Mission Statement "At Westwood we provide a supportive school environment and expect high standards of work and behaviour"
