Whimple Primary School
Whimple, EX5 2TS, UK Exeter
+44 (0)1404 822584

The school is set in the heart of the village, next door to the village hall which we use daily for PE, assembly and lunches etc. The pre-school also meets in a room at the back of the hall, enabling us to have a close working relationship which in turn ensures a smooth transition into school.

At Whimple school we provide a safe, caring and friendly environment in which pupils can work and play. We are fully committed to ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

  • To develop confidence, enthusiasm for learning, open and enquiring minds and the ability to think and act creatively, independently and responsibly.
  • To provide every child with a full entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum based on the National Curriculum and Religious Education requirements.
  • To provide a sound foundation and effective development of Literacy and Numeracy ensuring that all children achieve the highest possible standards.
  • To understand the feelings of others, to respect

We aim at Whimple to provide a safe, caring and yet stimulating atmosphere in which to work and play. As a small school we have the advantage of forming closer relationships with children. We do emphasise that if you have problems at home that may affect your child you should not hesitate to contact us. In the same way if we have problems with your child we will contact you. We must at all times work together for what we feel is best for your child.

At Whimple School we believe that an effective curriculum should be balanced, wide-ranging and have clearly defined progression. The curriculum includes all the subjects of the National Curriculum and the relationships between them.

Main Areas: English, Maths, Science, Information Technology, and Religious Education

Other Subjects: History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Music, PE, Modern Foreign Language (Yr3+)

We recognise that the National Curriculum, although providing the progression necessary for a child's academic development does not provide the balance and range necessary for a complete education. Therefore, we endeavour to enhance the National Curriculum with such cross-curricular themes as Health and Environmental Education and extra curriculum activities such as musical events, activity weeks and the awareness of community needs.

Children have differing learning needs and capacities and therefore we try to match the Curriculum to those individual needs, at the same time ensuring that no child is denied access to any part of that Curriculum.

We offer a variety of club activities at different times of the year, e.g. Multi-Sports Club, Football, Orchestra, First-Aid, Drama and a Fun French Club. We also play matches against other local schools in football and netball - these usually take place after school.
