WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

The entrance to White Spire School

"Through Learning to Independence"

At White Spire we strive to provide a stimulating and caring environment promoting success, achievement and learning for life by working with the student, enabling them to fulfil their potential.

Key features:

  • As an all age school, White Spire has the advantage of offering its pupils a consistent and continuous approach to learning

  • We seek to develop academic and personal qualities to prepare the pupil to become an active, independent and positive member of the community

  • The focus for learning centres on the individual pupil, meeting their needs and challenging them to progress at their own pace and level of development.

  • A wide range of off site activities and visits are an integral aspect of our learning programmes, including community and work

  • We work closely with mainstream schools and colleges, building partnerships enabling some pupils to work there in a part time or full time capacity

STUDENT COUCIL

The Student Council Body

The Student Council is made up from one student from each class. Democratically, they are voted in by their own tutor group to represent them. The council meets on a regular basis. They bring to the meeting any concerns raised by their tutor group. The meetings are minuted and a copy of the minutes is circulated to the whole school. There is a Chairperson and a Vice Chairperson. The Chairperson often has to go to talk to the Headteacher, Mr Jones, about specific concerns raised at the meetings. Sometimes, Mr Jones will attend a meeting, if he cannot attend, he will write a letter which read our by a member of staff. Mrs Sue Carroll helps run the School Council as part of Citizenship. Ms Lorraine Hanson takes the mintues for each meeting.

The BIG one - Red Nose Day

Each member of the Student Council must have good attendance, good communication skills, must be prepared to listen to other peoples views and take an active part in the meetings. Recently, the School Council was interviewed by local press to discuss the Sustainable Schools Status.

The school council also helps raise money for their chosen charities. Last years events were Red Nose Day, Money for orphans and widows in Kosovo, Coffee mornings and Macmillan Cancer support charity. Nearly £1000 was raised last year alone.

The Student Council Meeting

The Student Council also had a vital role in the recruitment of new teaching and support staff. When prospective members of staff come for interview, they come together in a room with the Student Council and have lunch and a chat after their formal interviews. After the lunch, the Student Council meets to discuss their thoughts.

Conferences are also attended by the Student Council, as representatives of White Spire School and they can help make decisions at a community level.

Any questions about the Student Council can be directed to Mrs Sue Carroll.
