Welcome to Widcombe Infant School. We are a small school located in Bath, near to the City Centre. We have 2 classes in each year group, (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) totalling approximately 180 children.
We are a mixed infant community school with ages from 4 -7 years. The school has achieved Investors in People and in March 2002 was invited to become a Beacon School from September 2002 (click on the link below for more information about working with a Beacon School). |

Our Computer Suite has 10 computers for the children to use. We take half a class at a time in there for direct ICT learning whilst the other half class learn French with Mrs Peacock. After half an hour they swap over. Every child from Reception to Year 2 has regular time in the suite each week.
Staff use the projector and interactive whiteboard to model lessons , skills, programmes etc.
In addition groups of children from each class work in the ICT Suite with Mrs. Beech to extend their learning in a range of curriculum areas using ICT as a tool for learning. |
Children enjoy a wide range of activities in the playground, including using the adventure playground equipment. |

Parents are welcomed into the school to work with the children, with activities such as, reading, ICT, cooking, sewing, art activities, numeracy games, literacy games etc. |
Mrs Peacock teaches French to all classes and she extends this to incorporate languages spoken by children in the class. In addition children learn about the French culture. Children learn French through songs, stories, topic vocabulary, drama, key vocabulary etc. |

The school in the community
Many visitors, including parents, come to share their special interests with the children and contribute their particular expertise. Topics range widely but on occasions are related to special projects, like the cottage garden above. |

P.T.A
The Parent/Teachers' Association (P.T.A.) is run jointly for parents and teachers of the Infant School and Widcombe C.E. Junior School.
We are very grateful to the P.T.A. who work hard to help the school and extend the scope of it's facilities across the curriculum.
The PTA have organised a wide range of events which have been enjoyed by many members of the school community, including a quiz night, wine tasting, summer fair, barbecue, ice-cream sales, Celebrity Auction and Christmas and Easter competitions for the children. For those parents new to the school, these events are not only to raise money for the school for extras, for which we are extremely grateful, but also to provide social events for parents to meet and socialise with each other. We are a community and that community is very important to us. In their role, the PTA forms an essential part of our whole school community and also enhances all children?s education. We are fortunate to have a PTA which is a mixture of established members who provide experience and new members who offer new ideas and ventures. New members are always welcome and we look forward to working with you. This year we have also been fortunate to have a group of parents, who though unable to attend PTA meetings and so be on the committee, have joined groups to organise events and this has proved a very beneficial contribution.
The PTA have given us £2,500 during the last academic year. The PTA money has again gone towards developing the school grounds for the children and includes the maze in the grounds to develop the problem solving aspect of the curriculum and the sand pit, as well as towards the sound system in the hall. During the last three years our school grounds have developed beyond recognition. This year Widcombe Infant School won best school grounds in the South West as part of Britain in Bloom, so you can appreciate the significant contribution made to the school grounds project. The children have also been extremely involved in this project and would like to add their thanks to the PTA.
As you can see money raised by the PTA really enhances the children?s education and school facilities. If any parents have suggestions for projects they would like PTA money used for, always pass them on to me and I can then prioritise the needs. Similarly, I will always inform you of how the money you have raised is spent. We are aiming to put this years money towards the school pond, large wooden musical instruments for the grounds and an outside stage.
At the Infant School we are extremely pleased and thankful to the large numbers of parents who help in school on a regular basis, assisting with trips, reading, art activities, computer work, cookery, sewing, manning the library or gardening with the children, the list is endless! If you would like to help in school, please see your child?s teacher or myself, you will be very welcome. At various times through the year we regularly ask for parent?s feedback and ideas. This helps us to continually develop and improve, and we are grateful for the time parents spend on this. We very much want to maintain and extend our positive working partnership with you, the parents.
As you can see, the PTA provides as essential role in school life. I have been delighted with the way all the Infant staff have supported and attended PTA events, particularly Mrs. Briony Smith, Miss Allison Noble and Miss Samantha Harrison who have taken an active role in the PTA this year as our Infant Teacher Representatives and Mrs. Clare Jones as our Infant Governor Representative. I hope you realise by our support how much all the staff value the PTA?s work in our school.
It has been a pleasure working with the committee over the past year. Finally, I look forward to working with the new committee over the next year and I hope as many of you as possible will join us on the PTA to make next year as successful as this. It is such a good way to get to know other parents and become more involved in the life of the school.

| International Day |

With a growing number of our pupils at Widcombe Infant School arriving from countries as far apart as Brazil and China, the school celebrates its own International Day. The day is a chance for the entire school body of 183 pupils aged between four and seven to come dressed in the colours of their flag or in national dress.
This is the big day of the year in which we can celebrate our diversity.

We had a visitor from Vietnam. She told us about her country and taught us some Vietnamese words. |
Three children in our school come from Brazil. We found out lots of interesting facts about their country and culture from one of their parents.
