Wigley Primary School

Wigley Primary School was founded in 1895 and has been serving the local community ever since. We are a small, friendly school of two classrooms set in a beautiful rural setting. Our external playing facilities are excellent which also prove to be a boon to learning. The school forms an important and integral part of the local community.

We take our School Aims seriously. As a student at Wigley School you can expect to have lots of opportunities to take part in team games, have regular swimming lessons and test yourself in outdoor adventurous activities. Students are encouraged to sing and learn a musical instrument and will have the opportunity to try a range of art and design activities.

Most of all we want our students to be creative, have fun and enjoy coming to our lovely school.

Our Aims

“Our aim is to provide a secure, caring atmosphere in which all children are encouraged and able to achieve their potential. Each child and his/her background will be valued and self esteem nurtured. We wish to help each child have a positive yet realistic self image. It is our aim to produce an atmosphere that encourages all to develop caring attitudes and a respect for others. Children respond to example and all adults’ relationships will set the tone. We would like our school to be a happy, hardworking and orderly place where staff, parents and visitors alike feel at home and where individuals show respect for one another and feel pride in their work.”

At School we aim to encourage the following:

  • Children to develop self understanding and a respect for themselves.

  • Children to develop a respect for others and their different ways of life and personal values.

  • Children to grow in confidence, self motivation and self discipline in order to acquire a positive sense of achievement.

  • Children to recognise, practice and value the qualities of honesty and truth.

  • The development of a sense of responsibility to each other, the school and the wider community.

  • Children to adopt a flexible approach to learning and to adapt the knowledge and skills to new situations.

  • An atmosphere of co-operation by fostering the qualities of compassion, kindness and tolerance.

  • The atmosphere of a caring and friendly community to which every one feels a sense of belonging and has a valued contribution to make.

Within the context of such a caring community to organise experiences and activities designed to help and encourage children

  • To develop an understanding and awareness of humanity, our responsibility to the world in which we live and our interaction with the natural environment and society, past, present and future; to relate to and understand the world in which we live by providing the opportunity to handle and explore the materials of the environment thus encouraging the formation of ideas, thoughts and feelings.

  • To communicate clearly in oral and written form, at the same time developing an increasing awareness of the variety and richness of the English language and literature.

  • To develop mathematical skills, their extension into logical investigative thinking and their application to the everyday world.

  • To develop the skills and processes of science through the application of logical thought processes and experimentation.

  • To appreciate, enjoy and respond to music sensitively, through listening, performing and creating in various forms.

  • To take pleasure and become proficient in a variety of movement, games and water skills.
