Introduction by Mr R.J.Quartermain - Headmaster

"This is a very effective, caring, community school which provides a very good standard of education"     - Ofsted May 2004

Welcome to the Wilsden Primary School prospectus!

Our prospectus has been prepared to provide you with information about our school. It should explain the organisation of the school and the values, skills and knowledge we are trying to develop in our pupils. We believe it is in the interest of our children that, at all times, we work in partnership with parents to encourage our pupils towards achieving the highest standard he or she is capable of.

There is a long tradition of education on the Wilsden school site. This continues with the newly re furbished and up graded school building which provides wonderful opportunities for the children of the area. We are well resourced and able to deliver a full National Curriculum with several notable extra features. Visits to places of interest are included every year, and in Years Four, Five and Six there is a residential visit. All classes have information technology lessons. Our pupils receive a school diary at the start of the school year - it logs homework and helps organise the school routine.

In Key Stage Two there is some specialisation from teaching staff which allows those with particular teaching strengths to use that expertise to best effect. In addition to this, older children are regrouped in Literacy and Numeracy to reflect their ability in the subject, this ensures children are always working at an optimum level. We teach French to all pupils in Key Stage Two.  We believe these arrangements and many more, give our pupils the very best start to their education.

Throughout each pupil's time at Wilsden, the staff uphold a full commitment to equality of opportunity for all pupils, regardless of background.  The Governors "Aims & Objectives", emphasise this commitment.

The experienced and well-qualified staff work hard to maintain high standards and ensure that every child is seen as an individual. I am convinced that children will only do their very best at school if they are happy to be here. We strive to make school enjoyable - as far as possible! Discipline is firm and fair, this, pupils see as a positive feature of our school.

I am sure that after reading this prospectus there will be further questions you may need answers to, please contact me direct if you have such queries. However, I am convinced a look around school is essential as you choose your child's school - this can be arranged simply by seeking an appointment through the school office. I try to meet all "prospective" Wilsden School parents and look forward to hearing from you.

R J Quartermain
